K-8 Summer School Information
Parkway focused on academics this summer
We are doubling our efforts this summer in reading and math to support students in grades 1-8. Teachers will personalize instruction based on student needs and focus on one grade level and the priority reading and math learning targets that are necessary for starting the next grade.
By dedicating our Parkway teachers and summer school programs to reading and math intervention this summer, we can ensure students who need additional support are prepared to start the next school year. This also allows us to double the number of students we can serve this summer in academic intervention courses.
Families have received an invitation if their child is identified as needing additional reading and math support based on academic performance this school year. If you did not receive an invitation, your child’s performance is on target, and/or they have not been identified as needing this additional support.
Camps and enrichment opportunities still available
Families who prefer enrichment opportunities and summer camps can enroll in Parkway-Rockwood Community Education for a fee. Registration for fee-based summer camps and enrichment courses opens on March 8 through Parkway-Rockwood Community Education.
Transition programs will be offered in August
Jumpstart to Kindergarten will be offered both in-person and virtually to rising kindergarteners and Welcome to Middle School will be offered both in-person and virtually to rising 6th graders in August. The programs will be offered from August 2-6, 2021 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Registration for these programs will open on May 1.
March Sustainability
Thank you to all Pierremont Panthers for helping us win the February Sustainability
Mini-Challenge! The focus for March is interconnectedness on Earth. All things on Earth are connected, and it is our job to protect those systems. One example we talk about often at school is how bees help humans by pollinating plants. Bees are necessary for our survival, and you can help bees by building a nest, home, or hotel in your backyard. Check out this article to find cool tips! Make sure to take a picture of your creation and upload it on the Points Reporting Form to earn 20 points for Pierremont. The bees will thank you! :) Megan
VIRTUAL CAMPUS NOTES
STUDY HABITS
Take up bedtime studying: Rather than catching up Netflix or Tiktok, take time to review your notes. You will better retain information practiced just before resting.
Break up marathon study sessions: Mental energy needs to be protected. Spread out your learning to avoid a marathon cram session.
Create a study schedule: Create a study routine and practice discipline in following your schedule.
Connect with other focused students: Sharing a common work ethic with a classmate will help boost both your focus and productivity.
Clear your space: Take the time to remove distractions and other coursework from your study space. Give yourself the greatest opportunity to focus on your review.
Shut off technology: When you sit down to study, put your phone on silent and set ‘do not disturb’ messages on any online messaging services. This will help keep you from getting sidetracked.
Ask for help: If you’re studying and realize you don’t understand a concept or theory, reach out to your teacher or classmates as soon as possible for clarification.
Take advantage of online resources: In your Virtual Campus course, you have received many resources and apps to help prepare you for the unit. Use these resources when reviewing the information.
Stay mentally and physically healthy: As a Virtual Campus student, you are likely to spend more time at your computers than traditional learners, making it imperative to take breaks, go on walks, get the recommended amount of sleep, and eat foods that nourish your body.

Lanyards for Sale
We still have a few lanyards available for purchase. These work great with the masks so the kids don’t drop their mask on the floor or lose them! If you would like to purchase a lanyard, please contact Jessica Bruner, pierremontpto.president@gmail.com. Each lanyard is $2.00.
SCRIP FUNDRAISING
We will be having one more Scrip order for this year. Forms will be sent home on April 1st and will be due April 14th. These make great gifts for summer birthdays or end of the year teacher gifts.
We also are looking for a Chairperson for next year's Scrip committee. If you are interested, please contact Jessica Bruner, pierremontpto.president@gmail.com for more information.
