Hero Project

All GT students created videos or written essays, poems, etc. about what a hero means to them and interviewed students, parents, people in the community that they considered to be heroes. All groups/individuals presented their videos to their grade levels throughout November.

Evaluations

The week before Thanksgiving break was spent having the students complete their portion of the evaluation for this semester in GT. Then the teachers take each evaluation and review the students' comments about their strengths and goals they want to work on for the spring semester. GT teachers then write their comments about your child's performance in GT, as well as in their CORE class they have with their GT teacher. *If your child is remote and doesn't have a GT teacher for their CORE class, that teacher will also provide an evaluation on your child.

All evaluations will be digital this year so that we can keep digital copies, as well as cumulative folder copies for future years. This way the teachers students have next year (and the years to come) can easily review the evaluations as well. These evaluations will be emailed to the primary email on file for your child on January 4, 2021. We will do this again at the end of May for the spring semester. *If you would prefer multiple emails be included or want to make sure we have the correct email on file, please email Ms. Hunt (ahunt@nbisd.org) and provide those emails to her. Thank you!

GT Service Project

The Thursday before Thanksgiving break all GT students got to see the introduction to our GT Service Project for December. This project will teach students about community service, giving back, empathy and selflessness during this holiday season. The recipients of our service project will be Memory Care of New Braunfels (as well as every single person involved with this project). They are located within walking distance of ORMS and on December 16 during Advisory all GT students will walk to this facility (safely and not in large groups) with the GT teachers and choir director to: sing carols outside the facility, decorate their outdoor area, give them videos the students made, as well as fidget spinners, ornaments, wall decor and hygiene products. We have cleared this event with our administration, nurse and the care facility to ensure it's safe and we are taking the proper precautions.

If you feel the need to contribute to this project, please reach out to your child's advisory teacher and we will happily accept any and all donations to make this event as successful as it can be. We are very excited to share our time, resources and gifts with the residents and staff at Memory Care of New Braunfels on December 16.

6th Grade

Adopt-A-Senior

Each of the 6th grade in-person learners will be adopting a senior from the Memory Care of New Braunfels facility. They will be filling a stocking for their senior with toiletries, cozy socks, etc... The students are creating cards to go in their stockings.
