Moore Magnet Media Minutes
I am happy to report that our Donors Choose Project was fully funded and we have received 3 additional copies of all the books on our Battle of the Books list! Our 3rd-5th graders are super excited! We are looking forward to gearing up for the big "battle" in the spring.
I wanted to share a good resource for primary sources. It is through Tennessee State Library and Archives under the educational resources tab. I have provided the link below. They are working on making it searchable by standard and eventually they hope to have it all transcribed because some are hard to read. The topics are listed under Themes, from there you can search the different primary sources. There are particularly good items for Tennessee History and the Civil War. Happy browsing!
Here is a great free website for gathering resources and evaluating text complexity for books! It offers picture books, novels and informational texts. Most of the books have quantitative measures available and some even show a graph of qualitative measures. Be aware that some professional judgement is required because the evaluations have been outsourced so anyone can submit an evaluation. However, I feel it is worth sharing and the resources are great!
Don't forget that I have issued a reading challenge to all of our students. The class in each grade level that reads the most minutes from November 24th-December 17th will be invited to the library for hot cocoa, cookies, and story time on December 18th. That means extra planning time for you! What's not to love?! Keep encouraging your students to read! Allowing them to log minutes at home, for morning work, during centers, or while they are waiting for buses are all good options. Thanks for your support!
