Back to School Update #1
Nantucket Intermediate School
Welcome!
We welcome you for the first time or we welcome you back! While we still have some summer weeks left, the first day for students will be here before we know it - Tuesday, September 7th.
There sure has been a lot in the news lately regarding schools and reopening with the Delta variant of COVID in our midst. Please know that at NIS nearly all of our students are unvaccinated and we want to do all we can to protect them while also providing rich, collaborative educational experiences that foster not only academic achievement, but also social and emotional well-being. Our district leadership team is reviewing all department of education guidance to finalize the appropriate protocols at each school. These will of course be shared with you very soon!
This summer our district leadership team worked diligently on refining our NPS Vision, Mission and Core Values. The draft versions were submitted to school committee for refinement and shared with all staff too seeking their input. Please don't hesitate to share your thoughts regarding these important statements about who we are and what we aim to do.
NPS Vision Draft
We commit to provide equitable, inclusive, and challenging learning experiences where every student and adult feels seen, heard, valued, and respected.
NPS Mission Draft
Nantucket Public Schools, in partnership with a caring community, will create a dynamic and equitable learning environment which engages each of us to be inspired learners and responsible citizens, prepared to meet local and global challenges.
NPS Core Values Draft
Nantucket Public Schools values collaboration, communication, and reflection that supports:
Equitable access to multiple pathways for individual and collective success.
High expectations and a student-centered educational approach that integrates academic progress, extra-curricular participation, personal responsibility, and community involvement.
Inclusive and sustained family relationships that respect all cultures and the experiences each child brings to our schools.
Challenging ourselves to embrace and advocate for the needs of every student, adult, and family within our school community.
We look forward to working directly with you this school year to support your children's learning!
