Art News
Dear Dry Creek Families,
Hooray and welcome to the new school year! It has been an honor getting to know new students and reconnecting with returning students and families. This is my 16th year teaching in CCSD and my 6th year teaching Art at Dry Creek Elementary School. Dry Creek is a very special place and I absolutely love being part of this community.
Original Works: Our annual fundraiser is a program called Original Works. In November you will receive online ordering information. This art fundraiser makes a unique and personalized gift which will be shipped directly to your home just time for the holidays.
Art Kits/Sketchbooks: Each student received an art kit and personalized sketchbook. This kit will minimize our use of community supplies in the Art Room. Should circumstances change and our school goes remote, I am hoping your child will bring home their Art Kit and Sketchbook, so we have common supplies to work with during our synchronized learning time.
I am part-time, but in the building Monday-Friday from 8:00-2:00. I am here for you should you need anything. I am looking forward to another year of creativity and learning!

Music News
My name is Jessica Pedersen and I am so excited to begin my 9th year at Dry Creek! I love teaching music and am excited for another musical year. It has been wonderful to see students in the building this week! I am so excited to start music classes next week.
Due to COVID, there will be several changes in music:
1. Singing can occur if all students are 9 feet apart.
a. This means there will be little to no singing in person due to the size of the music room.
2. No mixing of cohorts or grade levels.
a. Therefore, there will be no music extra-curricular activities, no choir, and no chimes.
3. No large gatherings or assemblies.
a. No music programs this year.
4. Specials schedule will be a two-week rotation – each class will go to the same special for two weeks and rotate through art, music, and pe. This will limit adult interactions and limit the number of different students in these rooms each week.
I am busy developing new lesson plans and practices for music this year that will create a safe, fun musical environment while honoring these new guidelines. It is a work in progress so please be patient.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at jpedersen3@cherrycreekschools.org
Sing-cerely,
Jessica Pedersen
PE News
Welcome back to Physical Education! I am excited to begin my 16th year at Dry Creek. I am looking forward to getting back to being with my students in the gym!
Things in P.E. will look a little different this year. We will now be seeing our students on a two week rotation. Because of this, when it’s your child’s P.E. week please make sure that your child has a water bottle and wears tennis shoes to school every day for the two weeks they come to P.E. This is very important so that your student can participate and play safely! Masks will be required during class unless we are doing something that requires physical exertion. I will be disinfecting equipment in between classes and kids will be required to wash hands before and after class.
Great News!!
Dry Creek has been named by the American Heart Association as a recipient of the Kids Heart Challenge and American Heart Challenge grant in the amount of $1,000. These funds will directly support our students equipment needs at school and learning at home. The Kids Heart Challenge and American Heart Challenge grant program was developed to allow schools to implement a variety of wellness activities with additions such as physical activity equipment, and resources that will impact your school and community. We were one of 180 schools across the nation to receive the award based on the grant I wrote. With this money I was able to buy a bean bag and a jump rope for every student to take home during remote learning in addition to new equipment to use at school. I sent the bean bag home with students last week and the jump ropes will be sent home as soon as they are delivered to school. Please make sure this equipment is not lost at home because I plan on using them during remote learning if that happens during this school year.
Looking forward to a fabulous year! Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
