Dear Kennedy Families,

Hope you are enjoying your last week of summer.

This is a short newsletter with several reminders. You should have received a packet of information in the mail regarding Maze Days. If you did not, please call our office to inquire about it. If you moved, please update your address with our front office staff so that any information is sent to the correct place. Please make sure your email address is updated as well since most of our communication is done electronically.

We have a few upcoming events this week first:

COVID-19 Safety Protocols District update

Above is a link to district messaging regarding COVID-19 safety protocols.

What it means to Kennedy?

Students and visitors need to complete a daily wellness form before they can enter school.

For Students:

- Students will receive a hard copy form for the first few weeks of school during MAZE day and eventually the district will release a digital form through powerschool parent portal so families have a choice whether they use the digital or paper form. If a student forgets, Kennedy staff will have the student complete the form and contact their families.

For Vistors:

Visitors need to complete a daily wellness form that will be in the front office. They must always enter through the front office on Goodwin

Masks are mandatory in classrooms and recommended outside

Classroom configuration:

Staff are able to group students in what they deem as optimal for an effective learning environment. There are no restrictions on distance in classrooms. Students' schedules are back to normal and they are able to move from class to class.

Good Hygiene:

Wash hands frequently and hand sanitizer will be available

* Will update you as new information is available

School Recommended Entrances for drop-off

In our effort to make drop off as smooth as possible, we have designated three areas for each grade level. All students must enter through a designated location and must complete a student wellness form online or in person when coming onto campus. It is highly recommended that the online form or paper copy be completed prior to arriving at school. This will help save time entering campus. We will have paper copies for you to pick-up at Maze Day as well. See attached maps.

If you have any questions please call our office (650) 482-2405 or contact me or our assistant principal David Camarena We look forward to seeing you!

Big picture

COVID Optional Testing for Interested Families (Message coming from DO)

As you may know, Redwood City School District (RCSD) has implemented several protocols as a precaution to maintain safety on school campuses as students, teachers, and staff return for in-person teaching and learning this new school year. In 2021-22, RCSD has partnered with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to implement Rapid Antigen COVID-19 Testing for students to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission at school. The voluntary program is for students under 12-years of age who are not yet eligible for vaccination.

Acknowledging that students have gathered or traveled during the summer, testing will begin prior to the start of the new school year.

All RCSD students may test at any of the following locations:

Monday, August 16

Henry Ford School outside of the Library - 2498 Massachusetts Ave. in Redwood City

Hoover Community School near the Family Center - 701 Charter St. in Redwood City

Taft school Community School near the temporary parking lot - 903 10th Ave. in Redwood City

Tuesday, August 17:

9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.

Henry Ford School outside of the Library - 2498 Massachusetts Ave. in Redwood City

Hoover Community School near the Family Center - 701 Charter St. in Redwood City

Taft school Community School near the temporary parking lot - 903 10th Ave. in Redwood City

Any RCSD student from any of its 12 schools is welcome to visit any of these three sites for testing.

Families interested in participating will need to register with Primary Health, the provider that will administer the testing for the district, and accept and sign the parent consent form. Parents need to access the Primary Health Student registration form here to consent permission for testing. For your convenience, we have included here this Fact Sheet for Patients of Rapid Antigen Testing.

Once the school year gets underway, RCSD students participating in in-person learning will have the option to be tested for COVID-19 free of charge once the parent signs the parent consent form. Rapid test results will generally be available within one hour. Parents will receive a message when the test result is available for both negative and positive cases. If additional laboratory-based testing is needed, parents will be notified. If a student tests positive for COVID-19, parents will be advised to consult with the family’s healthcare provider. As a reminder, any student who experiences symptoms should not come to school. Families need to fill out the Daily Wellness Survey every morning before 7:30 am. The Daily Wellness Form can be found in PowerSchool.

Thank you for your Attention to this important matter. We appreciate your support as we work together to maintain safety on our school campuses.
