Dear Parents
Welcome back to our final term for 2019 here at Holy Spirit. Fourth term always seems to go by so quickly as it is jam full of all sorts of activities. Just to kick us off we have had a fantastic cricket clinic for the students yesterday and a Year 6 excursion today and of course our big social event this Saturday evening.
Today we reaped the benefit from our Laps for Learning activity with all the ropes being renewed in our creative playground. Thanks to the efforts of all our students who participated and the support from all our parents and friends.
Next week it is all bakers on deck as we prepare to supply our wonderful cake stall for the Wembley Downs Fair on Saturday 26th October. We will again be accepting cakes and home produce from Friday 25th and will even have some students baking as well. All the goods will then be transported to our stall at the Luita St Reserve, St Wembley Downs on Saturday morning.
I will on leave for the latter part of that week and return on Thursday of the following week 31st October.
Among many other activities planned for the term we have our school musical scheduled for Friday 6th December, our Year 6 camp beginning Tuesday 26th November, Open Days for visitors on the 8th and 12th of November and much, much more. The term calendar will be available very soon with all the activities included for your information.
The staff began the term with a PD Day on learning and implementing the Aussie Optimism Program. This program along with protective behaviours forms an important part of important teaching and learning across the school. Aussie Optimism is essentially a mental health promotion and mental illness prevention program, research based and developed here in WA by Curtin University. AOP comes highly recommended, endorsed by the Dept. of Education, CEWA, AISWA and youthCARE and is currently used in many other schools. Full implementation into our 1-6 classrooms will occur in 2020. Information booklets will be available for parents and we plan to run an information session for parents as well.
Over the holiday break we said farewell to Armando Mortoni and wish him all the very best in his new school. This term we welcome the following students to our school:
Pre-Kindergarten - Aurora Leslie, Eloise Sutcliffe, Harrison Hill and Flo Allen.
Kindergarten – Allegra Musarurwa and Lolana Seakgosing-Kibuka
Year 2 – Olivia Casella
Year 3 – Harrison Lovegrove
Wishing all our staff and students a productive and enjoyable fourth term!
Regards,
Steve Versteegen
Principal
