VOICES IN THE COMMUNITY
Find Your Resilience hosted a discussion panel with people in the community at Willy B White Center in Rogers Park. We provided a space for people in the community to be heard and voice their feelings about current racial issues in America. We had the pleasure of having the following people on our panel. Police Accountability Hearing Council Mtg
Find Your Resilience attended Police Accountability Hearing at Senn High School for Police Accountability Committee Review. We were able to speak with people in the community and to listen to their concerns about how police officers can be held accountable for their misconduct in the city of Chicago.
We also had the pleasure of connecting with some great organizations in the community. One organization we would like to spotlight is CPAC. CPAC is a community organization that campaigns for Stop Police Crimes and advocates for civilian police accountability council legislation. To learn more about this organization visit them at stoppolicecrimes.com

Motivating Resistant Clients
Motivating resistant clients can be a challenge for parole officers , probation officers, case managers , social workers and counselors. Perhaps at times their efforts are not appreciated or overlooked by resistant clients. As a mental health counselor myself, I know how often these professionals go above and beyond to help these clients. These extra efforts can lead to compassion fatigue and fast burn out. Here are some tips to help you motivate resistant clients to make your job a little easier. We appreciate the work you do and the extras you do to make others lives a little bit better.
Motivating Resistant Clients
Be Patient . Building a rapport with clients from this population takes longer than others. For these individuals trust is important, and they want to know that you are trustworthy in order for them to feel safe.
Be Direct but Not Aggressive. An aggressive approach display fear and intimidation and hinders rapport building and trust. As a result, the client becomes guarded and defensive.
- Understand Your Client's History. Understanding your client's history will allow you to view their perspective and outlook on life. furthermore, you are able to understand your client's external and internal controls. ( what he/she feels he/she's able to control or not)
- Don't Blame the Client. Ask Your client about external and internal barriers that are preventing him/her from change and accomplishing goals.
- Empower the Client. Identify your client's strengths and use words of encouragement.
- Identify What's Important to Your Client. Ask your client what's important to him/her and start there.
- Promote Self-evaluation. Asking " Have your efforts been successful " by asking your clients to self-evaluate helps your client gain insight into his/her behavior that needs to change.
