Dr. Seuss Read-A-Thon

On Wednesday, March 2nd, our school will be having a read-a-thon in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday! Please contact me if you would like to participate and we can work out a time!

100th Day

Our class celebrated the 100th day by visiting different classrooms and completing different "100" related activities. They played 100 charts bingo, made either a hat/glasses, worked on 100 piece puzzles, drew what they would look like when they are 100, 100 exercises, and created a cereal necklace.

At the end of the day, the students released 100 balloons into the air!

(You will notice on Monday that they will have a 100 treat cookie bag. I completely forgot to send them home on Friday!)

Look for more pictures to be posted on our website.

Reading and Writing

We continued learning about long vowels with "when two vowels go a walking, the first one does the talking" and the "silent e". Many have caught on and we will keep on working on this. We worked on some word families as well.

The kids finished up their January journals and will begin their February ones on Monday.

We reviewed writing number sentences this week and also worked on determining if a problem was addition or subtraction. We will continue to work on this next week.

On Monday, the students had to guess what was in this giant egg that was brought in to the classroom. I gave them a few clues and they had to keep "inferring" to what they thought it was. It turns out it was a dinosaur!

We talked this week about the differences between the T-Rex and Bracchiosaurus. The kids found out what herbivores and carnivores eat. They completed a Venn diagram showing the differences and similarities between the two.

On Friday, the students made a dinosaur glyph. They had to pick if they liked herbivores or carnivores better, if they liked dinosaur movies, and if they thought dinosaurs were creepy or cool. After that, we watched a short video on how fossils are formed and they got a chance to make impressions in PlayDoh with toy dinosaurs.
