This Week's Science Experiment: Teeth and Sugary Drinks
What do sugary drinks do to your teeth? The calcium content of eggshells makes them a great stand-in for teeth. Use eggs to explore how soda and juice can stain teeth and wear down the enamel. Expand your learning by trying different toothpaste and toothbrush combinations to see how effective they are. Click on the button below to get step-by-step instructions. Grab some household materials, follow the directions and have fun!

Testing
CAASPP - CAASPP testing is going great! We’ve already had over 20% of our eligible students complete these assessments and we’re just getting started. We’re getting great feedback from our families who love the testing remotely option. Letting their children test in their homes, wearing PJs at the dining room table has really lowered the pressure. However, if your child would like to test in person with their HST we can do as well. Just reach out to them and they will be happy to work with you. We want this to be a pleasant experience for your child. Learning this life skill can open up so many opportunities for your child’s future. Have questions? Feel free to reach out to your HST or testing@cabrillopointacademy.org.
CPA has a website designed especially for our parents that talks about all the assessments we give throughout the year.
Bravo to our students who received the highest attainable score on the CAASPP!!
====> Highest Attainable Score Recognition Video <====
Below are some tips and tricks they have for doing well on the test!
- Don’t over cram in preparation, and don’t stress too much.
- Use the vocabulary to get a sense of what material will be on the exam, study all topics that you are not yet comfortable with, stay calm and collected, and have confidence in yourself!
- Before the test, we went on a walk and had a special breakfast to make it feel like a special day instead of a day of pressure.
- Stay focused and don't stress.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: As of March 12, 2022, masks are no longer mandated for indoor activities; however, they are still strongly recommended and permitted for those who wish to continue wearing them.
Although masks are no longer mandated for public schools, they may still be required by some field trip venues. Please thoroughly review the field trips details before signing up for any in-person activities. Also, keep in mind that field trip venue policies are subject to change.
Protecting the health, safety, and wellbeing of our school community remains our top priority as we adjust to the new masking requirements. The following health and safety protocols are still recommended.

Staff, students, and students’ accompanying family members must complete symptom screening before coming to an In-Person Activity (see below).
Staff, students, and students’ accompanying family members should practice regular handwashing.

Symptom Screening Requirement
Families and staff must conduct a screening of COVID-19 symptoms of students and accompanying family members. Do nnot register for or attend any In-Person Activity if an individual (e.g., staff member, student, accompanying family member) is experiencing any of the following symptoms within 10 days of the In-Person Activity:

- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Loss of taste or smell

Tips to Inspire Homeschool Writing Styles
Now that a couple of months have passed, and you’ve gotten back into the rhythm of the new year, you might be noticing that your student isn’t always looking forward to his or her writing assignments. Whether your child struggles with writing or breezes through it, sometimes switching things up can renew his or her enthusiasm. An active interest in writing will make it easier for students to boost skills that need a little help or even develop entirely new ones. While much of the time writing assignments may come in the form of freeform essays or reports, it might be time to try adding a defined writing style to the mix. Not only will it provide an additional challenge for some students, but others will also find that having a more structured style to write in will give them less to think through and more time to focus on grammar and mechanics.
Narrative Writing Styles
Novels, along with epic sagas or poems, are the primary domain of the narrative writing style....

Hi, I am a Mother of 4 sons, and grandma of 3 little ones. I learned about homeschooling about 5 years ago and I loved the whole concept. I homeschooled my youngest son and he loved it! I wish I had known this way of teaching when my other sons were little. I love helping families to thrive, and be successful! I am here to help you in any way I can.
