Smith Family Farms Study Trip!

We had a great time on our study trip to Smith Family Farms! We enjoyed learning about farm life, taking a hayride around the farm, navigating our way through a corn maze, exploring with soybeans, interacting with a variety of farm animals and picking our own pumpkins!

Thank you to the chaperones who volunteered their time and joined us on our study trip to Smith Family Farms! We enjoyed having you spend the day with us!

We Are Busy Learning...

Reading

During reading this week we focused on retelling fictional pieces of literature and determining the author's purpose for writing. We also started comparing and contrasting pieces of literature. We loved using the books Little Rojo Riding Hood by Susan Middleton Elya and Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs by Mo Willems to practice comparing and contrasting story elements to those of the original stories. Next week and the week after fall break we will continue working on comparing and contrasting literature as well as cause and effect relationships.

Writing

In writing this week we continued drafting small moment personal narratives. We are working hard to start with a topic sentence, add detailed paragraphs and write a strong conclusion. After fall break, we will choose our favorite personal narrative to take through the editing process. During the editing process we will discuss adding additional details, adjectives and adverbs to enhance our writing as well as ensuring we have correct punctuation and capital letters. Once we are finished editing and publishing, we will post our narratives to our Seesaw accounts! We are also interested in creating QR codes of our stories so that they can be shared with other students and teachers in our building.

Word Study

Word study in 2nd grade includes spelling, phonics, and vocabulary development. Next week we will continue working on r-controlled vowels. We will be looking for them in our reading and using them in our writing.

Our vocabulary word for this week was useless. We discussed the suffix "less" and identified other words that have the "less" suffix.

Math

In math we will continue to focus on adding two-digit numbers with regrouping.
