Principal's Pen

Dear Bishop Baraga Trekkers,

As you can see from above, I have renamed our weekly newsletter the Trekker Times. As I'm sure you remember, last year we had our mascot contest. We are now the Bishop Baraga Trekkers. We follow the example of Bishop Frederic Baraga, the first bishop of the Marquette Diocese, who trekked on snowshoes throughout the Upper Peninsula to spread the gospel. Every morning we say a prayer asking Bishop Baraga for his intercession. Our mascot is a wonderful reminder of our great calling to bring Jesus to everyone we meet, as Bishop Baraga did!

We had a wonderful first week back to school! We have made a lot of changes, and it will take some adjustment. Thank you all for your commitment. I want you to know that we take the health and safety of your children and our staff very seriously. We have nice small class sizes which allows us to practice social distancing. All the desks in our classrooms are 6 feet apart. We are practicing strict cleaning procedures and have placed hand sanitizing stations at all entrances and at the door of each classroom. We will do everything in our power to keep your children healthy and safe!

Our new dismissal procedure is going great. Thank you! I also realize that not entering the building this year can make communication with your children's teachers a little more difficult. I encourage you to reach out to your teachers with questions, concerns, or ideas. They love to hear from you. You can email them, call the office and leave a message, or set up a time to meet with them after school. We want to have open lines of communication at all times. Sometimes children go home and express a concern or problem of which the teacher is unaware. Please contact them. I know I speak on their behalf when I say they want to hear from you so they can address all issues.

Thank you again for your commitment to your children. God bless you and have a wonderful week!

Spirit Day Thursday

We will be having spirit days this year starting with this Thursday, September 3rd. A spirit day means students may wear a Bishop Baraga t-shirt. Each student received a t-shirt with our new mascot this spring. Any student who did not get one can come to the office to receive theirs. Students should wear their uniform pants or skirt with the t-shirt this Thursday, September 3rd.

Scrip

We are sending home some information in the Monday Mailer about our scrip program. We depend greatly on the money we generate through this program. Each family with children in kindergarten through eighth grade is required to raise a $200 scrip profit by the end of February. We are sending home the order form so you can see the scrip that is available and the percentage earned. If you make an effort to use scrip regularly, even just for groceries and gas, you will not have a problem reaching that $200 goal.

If you are unable to stop by the office to order scrip, we now have an online order form available. Click on the button below or visit our school website: https://www.baragaup.com/ Your online order form is emailed to the office, and Mrs. Steinbrecher will call you when the order is ready for pick up. We can also send the order home with your child. Call the office if you have any questions about this program.
