Lost and Found
LA/SS
This week students brought home a 40 Book Challenge Reflection Page. This was part of our homework for the week and should be returned to school tomorrow. Please look over it with your child and sign the Parent Signature spot at the top.
We are continuing to develop our fabulous writing skills by examining expository essays and their structure. We have been breaking down essays and discussing how and why the author chose their words and organizational structure in order to make the essays effective. The students are getting very good at writing "Power Paragraphs." These are paragraphs with strong topic sentences, supporting details, transition words, elaboration, and "wrap it up" sentences. Soonthe students will begin writing their own expository essay about what they want to be when they grow up.
Math
We are working on solving algebraic equations with all four operations. We are reviewing patterns and using them to create tables to find the input and output. We are continuing to build on our multiplication and division skills. Please practice flash cards daily! These are the foundation of all the math concepts we will be working on throughout the year.
Science
We need your help! We are currently studying matter, force, and energy in Science. At the end of this unit, we will challenge your kids to plan, design, and build a marble run. For those of you who are unfamiliar with marble runs, take a look! Here’s what we need from you. Please start gathering some of your recyclables. We need a variety of materials that may include (but are not limited to):
· Boxes (shoe boxes, cereal boxes, boxes from Amazon, etc.)
· Water bottles (rinsed and dried)
· Paper towel/toilet paper rolls
· Legos, building blocks, tinker toys (We will return these to you, of course.)
Please do not run out and purchase anything! I’m hoping that these things are lying around in your recycling bin. We will start accepting donations on Thursday, December 14.
Thank you! We can’t wait to see your kids’ creations!
