Highland Elementary School Arts Program receives &$5,000 grant from Bob's Discount Furniture
Highland Elementary School (HES) was the lucky winner of a $5,000 grant from Bob's Discount Furniture's Celebrate the Arts contest, an annual campaign designed to combat budget cuts and help schools keep and grow their arts programs.
Bob's outreach Coordinator Sharon Valley visited HES on November 12 to deliver the check and meet Triesha Fogila, the Grade 5 parent who first heard about the contest and entered the school's information on www.mybobs.com. Once she did that, others were encouraged to submit as many entry forms as possible before the October 31 deadline. Community groups on Facebook jumped on board and helped spread the word, helping Highland Elementary School achieve its winning participation level.
HES Principal Joel Freer said he was surprised when he was notified that the school had been randomly chosen as the winner for New York State and promised that the funding would be put to good use.
"We are in truly desperate times and we need all the help we can get," Freer said. “This money will definitely go a long way in supporting our arts in education program."
