News from your Golden Eagle Booster Club
- JUDGES FOR SENIOR PROJECTS - The seniors at Capital High School will be presenting their senior projects to volunteer judges on Tuesday, April 10. It is a great experience for the students and the volunteers. We need many volunteers to make this run smoothly. We have divided the day into three shifts and are asking you to consider giving a few hours of your time to this project. This volunteer opportunity is also open to grandparents, neighbors, and community members. Please sign up at http://signup.com/go/UTGsWhx . If you have any questions, please send an email to chsgoldeneagleboosters@gmail.com
- CLASS OF 2018 GRADUATION PARTY- The Class of 2018 will graduate on May 24, at 7:00 p.m., at Taco Bell Arena! The parent-sponsored graduation party has been scheduled, and here are the details.
- Where – Wahooz in Meridian
- When – Following graduation from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
- Cost - The entrance fee is $60 per graduate for unlimited food, drinks, and fun.
- How do you get a ticket to this awesome party? Tickets will be sold every Friday, during the lunch period, from April 6 to May 11, in the school’s front lobby.
- How can parents help? – If you want to volunteer at the party, a link to signup.com will be sent out soon.
- What else can parents do? – We need donations of cash, gift cards, or other items that would make great prizes. The prizes and drawings encourage kids to stay at the party and be safe.
- For questions or to make a donation, please send a message to chsgoldeneagleboosters@gmail.com.
- ONLINE AUCTION - The booster club is hosting an online auction from April 6 to April 16. Be on the lookout for the auction link. The items available at this online auction were originally going to be offered only at the Gold & Black Gala, but we have changed to an on-line auction format to reach more CHS families, alumni, and friends. There are some great items that you will not want to miss! Some of our items are “Coffee with BSU President Bob Kustra”, “original piece of art from local painter Fred Choate”, “Fly Fishing with Capital teacher Bret Bishop, the 2006 Individual National Fly Fishing Champion”, and “Elton John concert package”

April 16:
11:40: Boise State University (for admitted students…Next Steps)
April 17:

SENIORS:
Remember to bring in/scan a copy of your scholarship award letters and get them to me. The list of scholarships will go into the graduation program. The deadline will be the first part of May…right now I don’t know when the program will go to the printer but I will let you know as soon as I know.
You should be getting financial award letters very soon. If you do not receive one from your 4-year colleges/universities, please contact the financial aid office of that school to find out why. Typically, 2-year colleges will be later in the year. Contact your financial aid office to find out when they will be released. If you have any questions about your financial aid package, you are welcome to contact me but probably the best call would be to that college’s financial aid office. They are the experts and can talk specifically about their package.
Opportunity Fair
As a part of the senior day on Tuesday, April 10, seniors will be participating in the Opportunity Fair. Seniors will have the chance to visit with a wide variety of different organizations from colleges and universities, military, apprenticeships, to summer jobs, etc. I encourage the seniors who may be looking for a summer job or an apprenticeship to create a resume and bring it to the Fair. (I’m happy to help with the resume.) There are some excellent “opportunities” especially for those who are not wanting to go to college in the Fall but would be willing to become an apprentice in such jobs as HVAC, plumbing and pipe fitting, electricians, etc…paid jobs with benefits!
JUNIORS:
Junior & Parent College Information Night
When: April 4 at 7 p.m.
Where: CHS Auditorium
What: Information about college, including: ACT/SAT information, college selection, financial aid/scholarships, and more!
Spring College Fair: Sunday, April 8, 1:00-3:30 p.m. at the BSU Student Union. See more information above.
Tuesday, April 10 is Idaho School Day SAT. Juniors in the State of Idaho will be taking the SAT on that day. There is nothing for your junior to do…no registration process, no cost. This is an official SAT and can be used for admission purposes for colleges/universities.
I have gone into Junior English classes to visit with the juniors about the test and what the day looks like. They have also been given a full length practice test but more practice tests are in the Career Center!
What Juniors need to bring on that day:
*Picture ID
*Calculator with fresh batteries
*Small Snack
*#2 pencils…NOT MECHANICAL!
Students who are caught bringing phones, smart watches, or any electronics into the testing room are subject to having the test scores invalidated and will be asked to leave the testing.
Students are to be in their assigned testing rooms by 7:45 and testing will end between 12:00 and 12:30. Lunch will be served at 12:25.
Once students are released from the testing rooms they are released for the day.
I encourage all juniors who are going on to college to also take the ACT. Students must register on their own for this test.
Like the SAT, the ACT is accepted at all colleges and universities but it is different enough that it is a wise choice to take it to compare with the SAT. I then encourage students to re-take one or both of the tests in the Fall in hopes of increasing their score for admissions purposes and for scholarship purposes. Most students will need to complete their testing (ACT and/or SAT) by the end of December to make deadlines. Students are encouraged to check with their colleges to find out the last test dates accepted for admissions and scholarships and whether they need to take the Writing portion of the test.
Remember! If your family qualifies free/reduced lunches you may pick up a fee waiver in the Career Center prior to registering for the test.
SOPHOMORES:
Sophomores and Parents are welcome to the Junior & Parent College Information Night. While this is geared toward juniors, I believe it doesn’t hurt to hear the information ahead of time to know what to expect!
I strongly encourage sophomores to attend the Spring College Fair. This is an excellent opportunity to begin talking with college representatives and pick up information about their schools.
Sophomores will also be taking part in the Opportunity Fair. This will give them a chance to visit with prospective employers for the summer as well as taking a look at jobs and careers, including education.
