Welcome back to all existing and new students and whanau. We are indeed excited to have all the children with us throughout the day here at IPS. The start has been extremely positive, as evidenced by the excitement, enthusiasm, kindness and brilliant REACH Values being demonstrated already.

Exciting day in history

As reported by Stuff today, a Nasa rover has landed on Mars in an epic quest to bring back rocks that could tell whether life ever existed on the red planet.

Perseverance touched down just before 10am (NZT) after completing the riskiest part of its landing on Mars in which flight controllers could only watch as the spacecraft hurtled toward the red planet, long a deathtrap for incoming spacecraft.

I was privileged to witness the excitement of Waiongana iti children as they watched this event being livestreamed. The statement of the day for me was "I am going to work for NASA one day!" and the pure joy and spontaneous round of applause and cheering on landing - just delightful.

What a wonderful view we have...

We held our last full property hui yesterday for our Waiongana iti and Pouaakai blocks. We acknowledge all the hard work in planning, construction and occupying the builds. We have a few things we are still working through with our wonder contactors from Southcoast Construction in readiness for our blessing - (date to be confirmed). Our tamariki and kaiako are delighted to be in the spaces - especially on calm sunny days.

Below is a pic of our new teaching space at the end of Panitahi Block which is completed and awaiting sign off from NPDC. We will be including this space in our blessing (date to be confirmed).

At another property meeting yesterday we started planning for a single teaching space and a double teaching space which will be coming in over the next six months. We are extremely hopeful and excited that these spaces will be operation before the end of the year, making 2022 very exciting indeed.

COVID19 Level 1

It was great news to hear we are now in Alert Level 1. While new cases in the community are always disappointing to hear of, it is reassuring to see how quickly they have been identified. I am sure we are all grateful for the efforts of our health workers, scientists and technicians in this regard, and the thousands of people who have been tested.

As a community, we need to avoid the complacency which New Zealanders tend to quickly move into when we are at lower alert levels. Please do continue to scan QR codes and monitor closely for illness within your whānau.

Our focus as always will be to support the learning, safety and wellbeing of our rangatahi and tamariki and we continue to be here to support you too.

Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s kaiako or me, if there is something you need assistance with.

REACH in Action

We have had several contractors on site as you know and today was no exception. I was with a contractor today in the Waiongana iti block and several of our fabulous tamarki, came up, greated me and then held out their hands to the contractor to shake, while saying 'hi, welcome to IPS" This contractor shared with me later, he was going to go home tonight and share with his family his fabulous experience at our kura today. He said he visits many schools and seldon gets that sort of treatment.

Way to go kids - keep being awesome.

Please remember to look at our school events calendar and or list in the newsletters to ensure you are aware of important dates coming up.

Firewood Raffle

Hi, My name is Jayde McLeman and I attend Inglewood Primary. In March 2021 we are going on camp to Forrest Lakes in Otaki. I thought it would be a great idea to fundraise the cost to help myself and other children attend camp. Shand and the team at H & H Firewood Supplies Ltd have been nice enough to supply a truck load of wood to raffle off. (Value approximately $350). Tickets will cost $2 each or 3 tickets for $5. These are available at the school office. Winner will be drawn under supervision on 26 February and notified by phone. Time and date of delivery will be arranged with winner. Thank you so much for your help, all proceeds will go towards the costs of my camp and to the school to help fund other pupils costs.
