May 15th Updates
Hello North Crawford Middle and High School Parents,
I hope this letter finds you and your families well and enjoying some of the nice weather that has been present lately. There is now a little over two weeks left in the 2019-2020 school year and this has been a school year that no one could have expected. This has been a monumental challenge for everyone and what education will look like this summer and into next fall still remains to be determined. As a staff we will be taking a look at our approach to virtual education and making adjustments to our current process to make sure we are giving all students an opportunity to be successful in the future. There will be a summer school later this summer either in the building, virtual or a combination of the two. We are awaiting information that will allow us to make some of those decisions and have a definite starting date.
Some things that everyone should be aware of is that May 22nd is the last day for new instruction in the middle and high school. This is NOT the last day of school, just the last day of new instruction. Any unfinished work should be worked on still and students have until June 1st to hand in assignments and that will be the last day assignments will be accepted by our teaching staff. It is still not too late for students to recover from poor starts and we want to give everyone an opportunity once again to reach out to teachers, counselors and administration if you have questions or concerns.
This challenge is not the same for all families and we are empathetic and understanding of individual family challenges and unique circumstances. Some families have lost their jobs, have students providing child care, disabilities that make virtual education difficult and numerous other things that provide extraordinary challenges to an already difficult situation. Our hope is that students are trying and giving their best effort rather than just giving up and not doing their best. We have said from the beginning that this is a very difficult time and we want to support and work with families to help them be successful.
I am thankful for our staff, parents and students who have had to face a very difficult challenge and are making the best of it. I look forward to working with the students and families in our district now and in the future and to continue brightening the lives of and inspiring the young people in our community. I have included some updates below which will impact your sons and daughters in the next few weeks.
ALL MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND FAMILIES.
*The last day for new instruction is May 22nd. The last day that assignments can be turned in is June 1st.
*Seniors and any students that are leaving the district will hand in their Chromebooks and textbooks on Friday, May 29th. More information and a schedule for this date will be shared soon.
* Please remember to reach out to teachers with questions or clarifications that you need when those concerns arise. Teachers are here to help and want to see your sons and daughters succeed.
* If you are having technical difficulties please reach out to your children's teacher for clarification first. For google password resets or technology concerns please contact Donna Starkey, dstarkey@ncrawford.k12.wi.us, or 608-735-7225 during office hours and leave your contact information.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to our MS/HS counselor or myself with any questions or concerns that you may have.

MIDDLE SCHOOL UPDATES
* There has been a change to our 8th grade promotion format due to cost and viability. The 8th grade promotion will be a video that we will share with parents and post on the school website by 7:00 p.m. on May 28th. We will post that video on that date and we look forward to having 8th grade students and families view it at that time.
HIGH SCHOOL UPDATES
* Scholarship night will be a recorded video to celebrate the accomplishments of our senior students. The video will be available for families on May 27th. More information will be coming in the upcoming weeks about specifics and links to this event.
* Seniors will be dropping off their Chromebooks and textbooks at school on Friday, May 29th. I will send out a specific schedule and instructions for that day in the near future.
* Graduation has been rescheduled for Saturday, August 1st. We hope to have a ceremony in the gymnasium on that date but there are still a lot of questions about what the state will allow for gatherings. We will keep you posted about what this will look like during the summer. Diplomas will be mailed out in early June however to ensure that students have them in hand in case they need them for college, jobs or whatever else.
Please be thoughtful about your interactions with others because the number of cases in Crawford County continues to rise and the only way we can stop or slow that growth is by being very conscious about how we conduct ourselves. Social distancing, hand washing, not touching our faces, covering coughs and disinfecting surfaces are still paramount to keeping the vulnerable and ourselves safe. I wish all of you the best during these challenging time and with our combined efforts let's help keep our community safe.
