Chromebooks Available for Pick Up!
We have received an order of Chromebooks!
While we don’t have enough for every student at this time, we do have enough for students who responded to the survey that they could wait until one becomes available. If you have received a message that a chromebook is available for you, please follow the below directions:
- Please come to the Gym entrance
- Please wear a mask and social distance.
- Only come if you were notified by Bates via a Connect Ed message
- Note: If everyone comes at the beginning of the time slot, we will be overwhelmed. Think about coming later in the window if possible.

- Monday Jan 11th 12:30-2:30: Last Name begins with S-Z
IReady
Are you familiar with IReady? Students should be working on IReady for both Math and Language Arts outside of class time. In Language Arts, students spend about 45 minutes per week in the IReady pathway. Math Expectations are 75 minutes per week. Students are expected to work on teacher assigned lessons or MyPath. For both subjects, IReady work is part of your student’s homework grade. The good news is, in the new schedule for 2nd semester, there will be time built into the schedule for IReady; stay tuned for more information. Want to learn more about IReady? Click HERE or check out the video below.
JOIN BATES PLUNGE TEAM!!
The Polar Bear Plunge has been a major fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Maryland for 25 years. This year, they are facing an uphill battle as the plunge will not be able to take place at Sandy Point State Park and will be completely virtual this year. We are inviting our Bates family to join our plunge team! It is free to join and you simply decide how you'd like to 'plunge!' If you raise at least $50, you get an amazing sweatshirt too. The best part is that it is an easy fundraiser that you can email to friends and family or post on your social media pages and it is for a great cause!
BONUS: If our Bates Blizzard Plungers raise $5,000 or more, Ms. Hicks will plunge into the frosty Magothy River and record it for all to see!!!!
If you are interested, follow these steps to join our team:
- click this link here https://support.somd.org/team/333321
- click "JOIN TEAM" on the left
- Follow the steps to set up your page
- IT'S FREE!!!!
You can freeze for a great cause AND help us get Ms. Hicks in the river 🙂
JOYFUL PHOTO CONTEST!
YEARBOOK PHOTOS
Thank you for reaching out to share your questions, concerns and ideas regarding yearbook photos. We appreciate and continue to encourage photo submissions to assist our yearbook staff in creating a memorable keepsake.
As always, it is our intent, to create a yearbook that is appropriate and represents our student body, along with various school activities. Therefore, as in years past, we are not able to include every photo that is submitted. We will capture this unique year to include photos that were pre and during COVID. In addition, we recognize that in some photos students may or may not be wearing masks based on the setting and guidelines over this year. However, AACPS will not include any photos on school property where COVID guidelines were not followed. Again, thank you for all photo submissions in support of creating an amazing 2020-2021 Yearbook!
Let's make this yearbook one to remember! Since Ms. Grimail (yearbook advisor) is unable to be everywhere to take photos of our school year memories, she needs YOUR help! Students, Families and, Parents of Bates Middle School--please, use this google form to submit photos to add to our 2020-2021 yearbook!
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Ms. Grimail via email (tgrimail@aacps.org).
Google Form for Photo Uploads: https://forms.gle/sLaDUtbc63pYnqpw5
Check out the quick resource within the google form on HOW TO TAKE A PORTRAIT for the yearbook! ALL Bates students will need to submit their own portrait to add to the yearbook (must be current & following the guidelines)!
*Information about ordering a yearbook will be coming out soon! Stay tuned to PTA emails, Cougar Chronicle, and ConnectED messages for further information!*
