A Message from our Principal, Mr. Pflugrath...
Dear Osbourn Family,
I hope this message finds you all safe and well. As we close in on Spring Break, I am excited about the opportunity our students will have to step away from the building and have some time to just relax. Spring Break starts Saturday, April 1st and students return to school on Tuesday, April 11th.
Prior to stepping away however, I ask that we all ensure that students have touched base with their teachers and have a firm understanding of what is due, or what needs to be turned in so their grades are current. We will be at the end of the year before we know it and so it is imperative that students are knowledgeable about where their understanding of the material lies. If you have any concerns, please reach out to our teachers as well.
Make sure to mark your calendar for our end of course SOL tests on May 1st to May 10th. Please limit your travel and appointments during that time. We want all of our Eagles here and doing their best. We will send out a more detailed testing schedule in the upcoming newsletters. Prom is also approaching quickly on Saturday, April 15th . Ticket information is being shared in Schoology. Please also consider signing up for our After-Prom event at the Freedom Center, organized by our amazing parents.
Last week, Center Stage won awards including the 2nd place overall, Best Costumes, and Best Band awards. Ryan Wescott and Alexander Ramirez won the Showmanship Awards. Congratulations to Mrs. Easley and our CenterStage choir. All Choral groups from Osbourn High School received a SUPERIOR rating at the District IX Choral State Assessment.
We are very excited to be the host for the Regional Special Olympics at Osbourn High School on the new date of this Thursday during the school day. We hope to see you in our stadium for the event. This week is also our Spring Spirit Week which culminates with our Pep Rally on Friday. We will conduct our annual tornado drill this week as well.
As always, thank you for your continued partnership and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
#OneOsbourn!
Sincerely,
Mike Pflugrath
Principal
Osbourn High School

Choral, Orchestra, and Band!
Being that all Choral, Orchestra, and Band groups from Osbourn High School received a SUPERIOR rating at the State Assessments, Osbourn will have the distinct honor of being a Blue-Ribbon School again! Osbourn High School’s Performing Arts Department met all of the qualifications for a Virginia Music Educators Association Blue Ribbon School Award for 2022-23. A panel of judges at District IX assessed the performance of Osbourn’s band, chorus, and orchestra. To receive the Blue Ribbon every ensemble needed to perform at a superior level. Osbourn’s band, orchestra, and chorus earned superior ratings, which is the highest rating possible. The award recognizes schools throughout Virginia with superior performing ensembles. The award is given to the top performing schools in the district after reviewing each school’s band, chorus, and orchestra. Congratulations to our over 400 students enrolled in the performing arts department for excelling and achieving excellence.

Student Behaviors
We met with our students last week to review student behavior expectations. Specifically we addressed the importance of being on-time to class and the impact on their learning. We also reiterated our expectations for behavior in the hallway and bathrooms. Students are held accountable for their actions. Parents will be notified if their student is in violation of our expectation or the MCPS Code of Conduct. Consequences will be assigned. We appreciate your support in having a conversation with your student about getting to class on time and making good choices. Your partnership is key in this process. An overwhelming majority of our students do an amazing job and demonstrate outstanding behavior as we reinforce in our curriculum and with our PBIS team. The students that choose to violate these expectations are held accountable. We appreciate the parents and students that have partnered with us and shared information that assists our discipline investigations. Together we can ensure a safe and inclusive culture at Osbourn High School.
