Medication Administration at School
Prescription medication must be by written order from the provider with written permission from the parent/guardian before the nurse may administer medication.
Medication must be brought to the school by the parent/guardian or other designated responsible adult in the original container with the label intact.
Medications are to be given directly to the school nurse to be counted together with the adult delivering the medication.
Students are not to transport medication to and from school. In the case of self-medicating students, students may transport and self-administer with a written copy of a doctor's order on file in their school health record, and a copy kept with their medication.
Teachers should notify the school nurse when an as needed medication is taken to allow documentation with monitoring of symptoms requiring medication.
