Finding Margin
I wrote about this a few year ago and find it extremely relevant for this time of the year! This is by far one of the best books I have read and it is by Michael Hyatt called Margin. I've been guilty the past few years of living a life with little to no margin. I'm sure I'm not alone.. lets try to get better at this together! Below Michael speaks about what Margin is and how we are best if we create this in our life.
"Margin is the space between our load and our limits. It is the amount allowed beyond that which is needed. It is something held in reserve for contingencies or unanticipated situations. Margin is the gap between rest and exhaustion, the space between breathing freely and suffocating. Margin is the opposite of overload. If we are overloaded we have no margin. Most people are not quite sure when they pass from margin to overload. Threshold points are not easily measurable and are also different for different people in different circumstances. We don’t want to be under-achievers (heaven forbid!), so we fill our schedules uncritically. Options are as attractive as they are numerous, and we overbook. If we were equipped with a flashing light to indicate “100 percent full,” we could better gauge our capacities. But we don’t have such an indicator light, and we don’t know when we have overextended until we feel the pain. As a result, many people commit to a 120 percent life and wonder why the burden feels so heavy. It is rare to see a life prescheduled to only 80 percent, leaving a margin for responding to the unexpected that God sends our way."
I know we all have been working at 120 percent over the past few weeks, I am hopeful you are starting to get your feet back underneath you and are able to create some margin in your life. This is not something that just happens. You have to fight for it. I told everyone on our first day together this year to strive to keep things in proper order; faith, family, and then everything else. We have to take great care of these most important things in our lives so that when we come to school we can take great care of our students. If we neglect ourselves and our families it will be difficult to be our best at Hackberry.
I can't tell everyone enough how much I LOVE being your Principal!
Keep Howling!
