Principally Speaking
Next week, the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the American Federation of School Administrators have designated this week to specially honor assistant principals and acknowledge their key role in the achievements of schools and students nationwide. Please take a moment to send Mr. Rector a note of appreciation. Being an assistant principal is often a thankless job, as protecting the building climate can be an unpopular job. Mr. Rector cares about students and gives his all each and every day.
Please do all you can to be sure your students are in attendance at school every day and on time. A day missed can never really be made up to the quality that a student would receive if he or she was present to participate and learn from the teacher and classmates.
The next round of ISTEP+ testing will take place "on-line", so this means that not all students can test at the same time. Students will have to cycle through the available computer labs over the three-week testing window. The testing window opens on Monday, April 16 and closes on Friday, May 4th. As always, I am honored and thankful to serve you and your students as the principal of Danville Community Middle School.

For 6th to 8th graders, high school is right around the corner. Once you get there, you’ll be getting everything in order to go to college, but you can start now. Celebrate Assistant Principals Week Next Week
Please help us recognize the hard work and dedication of Mr. Dave Rector, DCMS Assistant Principal. Mr. Rector gives his all to DCMS and works tirelessly to help our students become the best versions of themselves.
Are You Moving?
It is that time of year when we begin to turn our sights toward next year. To that end, we are asking that parents who know you will be moving out of the Danville district next year to please contact Mrs. Horan. This helps us to create class lists and also prepare records at the end of the year to forward to your child's new school. We hate to see you go but want to make your move as easy as possible so your child has a smooth transition.
Parents, Be On the Lookout! Juuling: The Modern Way to Smoke in School
Parents, be on the lookout! A new trend has begun among students across the nation and even here at Danville Community Middle School. Some students have learned a new way to get access to nicotine without smoking a cigarette or using the typical e-cigarette. It is called juuling. The devices used look like USB drives and can be overlooked by parents, guardians, and others attempting to maintain the safety and health of our teens. Please watch the following segment from the Today show to educate yourself.
Possessing or using a JUUL at school is prohibited. Students who use or possess a JUUL will be subject to disciplinary consequences. Please help us to keep our school safe and healthy for our students by talking with your child about the dangers of using this product.
JUULs can look like a USB and be plugged into a computer.
Juuls light up.
JUULs are small and look like an electronic device.

Dodgeball Tourney 2018
It is a fun-filled night with lots of action. We will have music going between games and as usual the concession stand will be open.
Entry deadline is Friday, April 6th (after Spring Break) so please ask your son and/or
daughter if they plan on playing. Teams can have 7th & 8th grade players, but no co-ed teams are allowed. All teams can have no more than six players, but may list up to two coaches on their roster.
The kids usually get excited to plan their team uniforms, but please remember all team names need to be approved by Mrs. McGovern. Please do not order shirts unless the team name has been approved.
We typically need 20 teams to pull this off. In the past, we have always exceeded our goal, but right at the deadline - so talk it up so we can have another successful tourney!
Students may pick up forms upstairs in Mrs. McGovern's room.
Order Your Yearbook!
