Principal's Note
Happy Fall Lamar Families!
As we transition into our 2nd nine weeks and I wanted to again thank all of our students, faculty, staff, and families for a great school year so far!
As a Reward School, we know that we came a long way from the learning loss of the pandemics. However, we still need to continue to make growth to ensure that we are at or above grade level in all subjects. Parents, you can help with this effort by ensuring that your child has a study space at home, working with your child on their assigned learning, and encouraging them to read at least 20 minutes each night.
You can also go over your child's 1st nine week grade card with them. These will be coming home on Wednesday and need to be signed and brought back. They are also available digitally via Parent Portal. Below is that link. Visit the office if you need log in help.
Finally, you can set up a time to meet with your child's teacher at Parent-Teacher Conferences this Thursday, October 13 between 11 AM and 6 PM. Conferences can be in person or virtual. Feel free to reach out to the school at 423-753-1130 to request a meeting with your child's teacher(s) to discuss their progress.
Thanks for your continued support!
Respectfully,
Mark Merriman, Principal
Attendance Reminders
Submitting Parent Notes:
When your child is absent and is not seen by a medical professional, the quickest and most efficient way to submit a parent note is to email Mrs. Jessica Miller at millerj3@wcde.org. If you are not able to email, please send a written note with your child when they return to school. Students must turn these into the office promptly. Parents are able to submit a note to excuse 5 days each school year. After the 5 parent days have been exhausted, a medical excuse must be submitted to excuse the absence.Submitting Medical Notes:
When your child is absent and is seen by a medical professional, the quickest and most efficient way to submit the medical excuse is to have the doctor's office fax the excuse to the school at 423-753-1134. If the office is not able to do this, please send the medical not with your child when they return to school. Students must turn these into the office promptly.
*Parent notes and/or medical excuses must be received within 5 days of the student returning to school for it to excuse the absence. After the 5 day period, the absence will remain unexcused.*
Parent & Teacher Conferences
11am - 6pm
No School for Students
As most successes are, the education of a student is a team effort. It takes dedication from teachers, from parents, and from the students themselves. Everyone has an important role to play. A parent-teacher conference is a great opportunity to:
- share academic progress and growth based on classroom observations, testing data, assessments, portfolios, and assignments
- be better informed about students' strengths, needs, behaviors, and learning styles
- discuss enrichment or intervention strategies to support students' learning
- discuss issues that may be interfering with students' learning and growth
