Founding Massachusetts
In 1498 Explorer John Cabot sails along the Massachusetts Coast. The settlement of the Massachusetts Bay Colony much like Plymouth was started by nonconformists for the pure pleasure of religious freedom. The colony was founded in 1628 by John Winthrop, Thomas Dudley, and other non-separatist Puritans. Massachusetts was the second colony to be founded.
This colony was founded to get away from England and have a choice in how they live their life like every other colony.
They had normal jobs like farming, lumbering, fishing, shipbuilding, and trading.
The Colony was named based off of how they described the surroundings which they called “near the great hill.”
It was made up of puritans that came from England.
Massachusetts was a refuge from Great Britain.
