Principal's Update
First, I hope you and your family are safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding as we have been adjusting, like you, to the drastic changes in life during the last few weeks. I am extremely appreciative of our students, parents, teachers, staff, and faculty for their positivity, flexibility and resilience during these trying times. A huge debt of gratitude also goes to all of our doctors, nurses, hospital employees, first responders, and our state leaders for all they are doing to keep us safe and healthy.
As you know, Franklin Academy’s Virtual Learning Plan (VLP) is in full motion. Our goal is to provide continuous educational opportunities and practice for students while our school campus is closed but also to eliminate as much stress as feasibly possible for students, parents, and teachers. While it is our responsibility to continue to educate our children, we also want to compassionately take into consideration the variety of difficulties that our families and employees are enduring during this time.
The following information will provide answers to your questions related student progress reports, grades, final exams and state assessments. In closing, one of our main focus points for our educators and students is having a “growth mindset.” A growth mindset unlocks our ability to learn and grow especially during challenging times. Little did we know how important this growth mindset would be for all of us this year! Because of this experience and our growth mindset, I believe we all will be stronger when we come out on the other side of the COVID-19 Pandemic. I look forward to the day when we can all return to our beloved school campus to resume our traditional model of educational excellence.
Stay strong! Stay healthy!
Warm Regards,
Elena Diaz, M.Ed., Principal

State Assessments
Final Exams for non-EOC courses (6-12)
A waiver for final exams for Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 has been done by Franklin Academy's school administration. A grade substitution process for the final exam has been developed. The substitute grade for the final exam grade will be the higher of the 3rd or 4th Quarter Grade.
Final Exams for End-Of-Course (EOC) Courses (6-8)
Final Exams for End-Of-Course (EOC) Courses (6-8)
The EOC has been waived by the State. A grade substitution process for the courses with a related EOC has been developed (Algebra, Geometry, Civics).
1. IF the student earns a grade of “A”, “B”, or “C” in quarter 4, THEN the grade substitution for the EOC will be the highest of the grades from Quarters 1-4;
2. IF the student earns a grade of “D” in quarter 4, THEN the grade for the EOC is the highest of the grades from Quarters 3 or 4
The EOC substitution grade will be 30% of final course grade. Although EOC exams have been waived this year, students enrolled in Algebra 1 Honors may be required to take and pass the related End-of-Course (EOC) exam in the future as it is currently a high school graduation requirement.
