Business Support continues with Mayo Clinic Health System
The Owatonna Public School District announced today that another local business has joined Viracon, Wenger Corporation, Wenger Foundation and Federated Insurance in support of a new high school for Owatonna. Mayo Clinic Health System will be funding a new scoreboard for the main gymnasium, outfitting the new athletic training room and providing funds for the health care learning lab. The proposed 340,000 square-foot high school would provide our future high school student population with high-tech and career learning spaces to ensure that all students are college, career and life ready. “The support from Mayo Clinic Health System to provide funds specifically for the health care learning lab is a tremendous step in the right direction in the vision of where we want to take the career pathways initiative. By engaging our students with relevant learning experiences, it will ultimately lead our students to make informed decisions on their pathway to success,” states Mark Randall, Principal of Owatonna Public High School.
“Mayo Clinic Health System is committed to participating in projects that benefit our community as a whole,” states Brian Bunkers, M.D., President of Mayo Clinic Health System – Owatonna.” “We believe strongly in the need for a new high school in Owatonna and our financial commitment is just part of our support for this project. A new high school is a key element needed for the clinic to recruit and retain the staff that provides for the health care needs of this community.”
With backing from numerous organizations, this project is a testament to the city and local business’ commitment to remain a growing and vibrant community that is attractive for future and current employees and their families. “We can not say thank you enough to the local businesses for their continued support in education,” stated Jeff Elstad, Superintendent of Owatonna Public Schools. The Owatonna school board unanimously set May 14, 2019, as the special election date for a vote on issuing general election bonds to build the new Owatonna High School.
