Dear Charlemagne Families:
What a wonderful turnout for our family movie night Friday evening. Thank you to those who came and enjoyed popcorn and Ratatouille! Mme. Wolf’s first graders were delighted to choose the movie as a result of high participation in Math-A-Thon this week.Such a delight to see our community enjoy each other's company and have fun together!
We are also amazed at how our families rally together to support and participate in our fundraisers! Wow! Several classes are close to earning a Star Wars Party for their participation in Math-a-thon… more information is below!
Math-a-thon Deadline Extended to Monday
Please bring in your packets for our final collection day on Monday, 1/27. Students who participate get their name included on the Math-lete Wall of Fame in the school entryway. Come in and check it out when you have a chance!
A reminder that classes with 90% or greater participation will receive a STAR WARS party! Participating requires doing the math and returning your packet with your name, grade, and teacher. No donations necessary but we certainly appreciate your generosity. Several classes are really close to earning a party with only 2-3 participants left to earn the party. Bring those packets in!
Thank you to those who have so generously donated during our Math-a-Thon. We are so grateful for you! There is still time if you would like to contribute. Donations can be returned with your child’s packet or submitted online. For online donations, please use this link:

All donations are tax deductible. The Charlemagne PTO tax EIN # is 46-1825220.
Community Night Out - Bowling at Emerald Lanes
During the week of January 27 to February 1, join us for bowling at Emerald Lanes! While you enjoy bowling fun with your Charlemagne friends, 50% of the proceeds will go to Charlemagne PTO to support programs at our school.
Please be sure to present a copy of the flyer at the end of this newsletter so that the school gets credit. Spread the word and invite your family and friends to join! And, remember that Friday, January 31 is a no-school day for students… that could be a *great* day for bowling!
Oregon Battle of the Books
OBOB battles are scheduled for Thursday, February 27. We will be starting at 8:45 am and will have three battles going on at once, in three different rooms.
The final battle will be at an assembly for grades 2-5 on on Friday, February 28 at 11:00 am.
Because we will have the first three battles happening at once, we need assistance with reading questions, keeping time and keeping score. If there are any volunteers who would be willing to help on Thursday, February 27, please contact Kim at kimcooleyreeder@gmail.com. And thanks so much to Kim Reeder for coordinating all of this!
Parking Lot Safety: Drop-off and Pick-up
Ours is a very busy parking lot during the peak hours of 8:15 - 8:30 am and 3:00 - 3:15 pm. Please, slow down! We have had numerous reports of quick moving cars not seeing or stopping for students on foot or on bikes and skateboards. Particularly in the front parking lot, students use both the south sidewalk by the playground and the east sidewalk in front of our upper grades classrooms. Please make sure to look both ways when exiting and follow speed limit laws when children are present-- which they absolutely are during those key times. Thanks for your help… and for helping to remind others.
January School Choice
Just a reminder that January is school choice month for the Eugene 4J school district. All families MUST enroll their students in the lottery, even if a sibling is already attending Charlemagne. If you know of families who are interested in attending Charlemagne, information about the lottery can be found here:
https://www.4j.lane.edu/instruction/enrollment/schoolchoice/.
Our last school choice event is this week on Wednesday, January 29 at 9:00 am. No childcare is available.
If you know of anyone considering Charlemagne, please remind them of the dates and to RSVP! And, if you have flexibility in your schedule, chat with Mme Courtney about leading a school tour.
Mardi Gras
Coming soon: Fun for the Whole Family!
Friday, February 21 from 5:00-7:30 pm
Our school carnival is on its way in just a few short weeks! Mardi Gras is a time to be together as a community, enjoying each others’ company, playing old-fashioned and new carnival games and having fun. Please save the date.
In the meantime, our fabulous Chairwoman, Marta Cuboni, is looking for people to help coordinate and plan this event for our children. We will post sign-up links next week or you can contact Ms. Cuboni directly to help out: ms.cuboni@gmail.com .
Our phenomenal parent volunteer who ran the Mardi Gras store for many years will not be coordinating this year. We are in need of someone or a small group to take on this project asap!
Charlemagne Soiree
Charlemagne’s Soiree is the school’s largest fundraiser. This year, Soiree is scheduled for Friday, April 17, so please be sure to save the date! The auction raises thousands of dollars for educational assistants and French-speaking Amity interns. It enables us to have classroom assistants to help keep our class sizes manageable and provide intervention for students who need support.
There are several ways you can help contribute to the Soiree.
- If you have or know of a business who would like to Sponsor the Soiree, we have multiple levels of sponsorships available with marketing packages!
- If you or someone you know has a business or a skill that would make a good silent auction item, please donate! Possibilities are endless but examples could include gift certificates, artwork, experiences, tickets to an event, gift baskets, etc.
- If you or someone you know has an experience that would make a good live auction package, please consider donating. Examples include cooking a meal for a group of people, party packages, vacation rentals, or even things we can combine with other donations to create a package. We would be happy to brainstorm with you how any of this may work!
- If you have any amount of time to volunteer there are several ways you can help leading up to the auction or on the day of the auction! It does not need to be a lot of time - even a couple hours can make a big impact!
For any questions about the Soiree or how you can help, please contact our amazing Soiree coordinator, Mara Gregory. You can email her at Mara-Gregory@kw.com or call her at 541-731-0254. She would be happy to answer any questions, and we are so incredibly grateful to her for her leadership with this extremely important event!
