As our teachers plan their lessons, we know they sometimes see an activity, lesson, worksheet, TPT resource and think "that would be great to use in my classroom." However, educators must be keenly aware of the activities and assignments they are planning to ensure that they are truly addressing grade level TEKS at the appropriate rigor. That favorite worksheet may cover TEK 3.1B, but does it do it at the depth and complexity that it should?
As we help our teachers plan, we may need to remind them to analyze some of their tried and true activities and resources for true alignment. This takes practice, so it’s an appropriate topic for an upcoming data PLC. Ask teachers to bring their upcoming plans and resources. Are they too easy? Are they too difficult? Do they align with grade level TEKS? This article is a great introduction to this important topic that discusses the difference between TEKS-referenced and TEKS-based materials and resources.

SSI Materials
As a reminder, SSI is structured in two parts: (Phase 1) immediately after administration/prior to results and (Phase 2) immediately after results are received. Below is information regarding the location/structure of materials.
Phase I
Utilize immediately after first administration of STAAR until official results are received, approximately two weeks.
Station format with day by day activities
Reading SSI Intervention Lessons:
Located in the Unit 5 Learning Plan on Day 25 and in the Unit 6 Learning Plan on Day 1, titled “Additional ELAR/ SLAR STAAR Review”
There are actually enough lessons to last the 4 weeks until the retest, but it is designed so that teachers can select the genres/TEKS most needed in their classrooms and plan accordingly.
Science SSI Intervention Lessons with Math and Reading Integration
Review content tab provides additional science review materials to be used with any student but is especially helpful for extra science content to support students likely to pass reading and/or math
Graphs and Charts intended to continue preparation for the Science STAAR (in addition to the online regular science curriculum) but also provide support for possible re-testers in math.
Science Literacy is intended to continue preparation for the Science STAAR (in addition to the online regular science curriculum) but also provide support for possible re-testers in reading.

Phase II
Utilize immediately after first administration for students who did not pass one or both tests.
Materials are sorted by SE and can be selected based on data received from first administration.

Campus Visits
Our campuses have great teachers! This week, your campus will likely have district visitors conducting walks in some of your classrooms. They will be visiting classrooms to observe some of the best practices we have in place. They can direct themselves, so there is no need for you to alter your schedule or make special arrangements.. I just wanted you to know in advance.

HR Info
The Human Resources department is excited to announce the replacement of the Garland Application Tracking System (GATS) with a more robust and updated sister application, Recruit & Hire.
RECRUIT & HIRE- GO LIVE DATE April 16th, 2018
- Summer School Teacher Posting Taken Down on April 6th, 2018
- The Summer School Application process began in GATS. In an effort to minimize confusion for teachers and principals, we decided NOT to have Summer School Teacher applicants reapply in Recruit & Hire for Summer School positions.
- During this transition period (Post April 16th), GATS will not accept any new applications, however, all hiring managers will be able access GATS to view applications submitted prior to April 16th, 2018. (Primarily for Summer School Applications)
- Summer School Principals are encouraged to fill their positions as early as possible due to the posting being taken down. (In previous years, the Summer School Postings would stay active until the week before Summer School began.)
