Humble, TX

Our field trip to Old MacDonald's Farm will be Friday November 8th. We will be enjoying many fun activities at the Old MacDonald farm including a hay ride, the petting zoo, and a chance for your child to pick their very own pumpkin from the patch to bring home for the fall holidays. Other activities will be available as well. You do not need to pack lunch for your child, their lunch will be provided for them. The cost for the lunch was included in your field trip costs which were to be turned in with the signed field trip forms. All forms and fees were to be filled out and returned by October 18th. Please contact me as soon as possible if you missed that date and are still interested in allowing your child to join us.

What the Month of November Has to Offer Us

November Themes

Our theme this month is: Family and Community

After Thanksgiving, we will begin a unit on the home and school environment. In our first lesson will learn about different homes and what kind of objects we can find in a home. The book that we will read for this lesson is called Let’s Go Home: The Wonderful Things About a House by Cynthia Rylant. I will have the book accessible at any time in the classroom if you are interested in familiarizing yourself with it before we begin our unit.

We will begin learning the sounds of letters: N, T, and B

N for November and neighborhood

T for Thanksgiving and turkey

B for Bus and Box

We will review the letter F for Family and continue identifying the letters C, M, A, and P and their sounds.

We are continuing to introduce and trace the letters of the alphabet that we have already learned this year. Pre-kindergarten is a good time to introduce hand-positioning habits that will help with their handwriting for years to come. As you work with your child at home, please encourage them to hold their pencil correctly. This means holding their writing utensil with their thumb and pointer finger. The pencil or crayon then rests on the third finger. Please work with your child to help them learn how to write their name. They should start with a capital letter followed by lowercase letters. Be aware that it may not be perfectly legible to you but constant practice will help improve their handwriting skills.

The students will continue to learn and practice identifying numbers 0 to 5 and all about the shape of a circle and oval this month.

A fun activity that we will use to help build their rote counting abilities is the Count and Move Game. There are several variations of this activity that we can use to keep our students motivated to participate in learning to count. In this game, our learners will stand in a circle while we play the Count and Move Song by SuperSimpleLearning. For each number that is said, our learners will take a step in place and repeat the number in the song until the song is over.

Language & Literacy:

We will continue to work on rhythms and rhyming words.

Our nursery rhymes this month are: Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, Five Little Monkeys, and Pease Porridge Hot

Tis the season for germs. Colds are unavoidable, but please use your best judgement on sending your child to school. A cold is not a problem, but if he/she is not acting like themselves or if the mucus is discolored, you may want to keep him home for the day. Also, school policy states that if your child is ill, he should be kept at home for 24 hours after vomiting or a fever. Make sure to send your children with coats and gloves as we will continue to go outside for short periods of time until it is no longer possible.

Progress Reports

Progress reports will be sent home on November 3rd. Please make sure that you review your child's progress report and send them back with a signature by Friday November 8th.

Thank You!

School Pictures

Group pictures will be taken on Wednesday November 20th. Let's dress our best!
