Testing days are as follows for all grade levels:
April 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th.
April 16th and 17th.
Testing for 8th grade only:
April 18th.
Needing to see the school counselor?
Students needing to access the counselor's office can submit a form from their chrome books by clicking on the apps button. This form comes only to the counselor's. If you have any questions or need help finding the form refer to the email that was sent from Mrs. Horstmeier. You can also ask your teacher for help.If you can't locate the form you can also shoot your school counselor an email. Obviously if there is an emergency, students will be sent to the Counselors Office immediately. This is just a great way to help students stay in the classroom for instruction time.
Here are a few ways you can reach out to us in the FMS Counseling Office:
Mrs. Horstmeier works with students with a last name starting with an A-J and can be reached at shorstmeier@fulton58.org and Mrs. Crawford works with students with a last name starting with a K-Z and can be reached at mcrawford@fulton58.org
Ms. Jo is the Counseling Office secretary and can be reached at jwilliamson@fulton58.org.
Counseling Office phone number is 573-590-8208

This group is off to a fantastic start! We have approximately 40 singers in the choir! Singers will get their new folders and music on Tuesday!
MUSIC 6
Rock Star vs Pop Star has been one of our best projects yet! The creativity of this group is inspiring. Some of our student-written songs will be showcased soon! Stay tuned! This newest project is one where students work in small groups (or independently) to create a rap or song that teaches us all about notes and rests!
We are preparing to begin the learning about various styles of music as well.

6th Grade Band:
We have been focusing on tone and precision this week. The students are doing great! Please encourage your students to take their instruments home every night, with all of the snow days, we could use that time to practice at home!

Our next concert will take place at the high school on March 12. This is when all of the bands 6-12 perform. It is a very exciting time and this is one of my favorite concerts that we have. There will also be a fundraiser dinner served before hand to raise money for our band boosters. Please consider coming that before.
Cherrydale orders have been sent in. They will be delivered the night of Parade of Bands and will be available for pick up that evening.
7th Grade Band:
7th grade band students have signed up for solos and ensembles. This is for Central Methodist University Music Fest. The whole band will also be competing at this festival. You can find the date on the band calendar, Friday March 1. This will be an all day event and students will be required to ride the bus to Fayette with us. Parents are encouraged to come and watch, and you may take your child home with you once they are done performing if you would like!
Students who sign up to take a solo or and ensemble will be required to stay after school with me and receive lessons to ensure that they have a positive experience. I will stay after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These lessons should be a let's see where we are at, not me teaching the student the solo, this should be done at home.
I have sent home an email with information about Music Fest. Please let me know if you have any questions!
I sent out an email last week, this is in regards to an addition of performance opportunities to the calendar. Palen Music Center out of Columbia has invited our groups to perform at Moberly High School for their clinic day. This is going to take place during the day on March 15. We will provide transportation. I am still waiting on information on specific times. Please make sure that you check your email.

Wire Choir:
Students in wire choir are pretesting this week over standard notation (reading music on the staff.) This is an important part of the curriculum and we are going to be spending a lot of time curing 3rd quarter really learning how to better accomplish this learning target.
Students can practice at home on the following link:

News from the Art Room
Over the next several weeks we will be speeding up some of our objectives to make up for lost time due to weather. We are holding course on current objectives and putting the final touches on some.
6th Grade will be continuing with our torn paper animals unit.
ELO 2 Students will use subject matter and themes in artwork
Students will create a texture by joining two or more surfaces and drawing their favorite animal then using color and texture to accent and separate color.
7th Grade
Students will be moving towards our next objective and working over the next few weeks
ELO1 Students will apply media techniques and processes.
Students will learn about textures both implied and simulated, along with a deep understanding of value in drawing as we look and create old barns.
This project tends to be a very rewarding and also very challenging to students as I push them very hard on this project, but the results are always amazing and surprising for the student.
8th Grade will continue on their current objective
ELO4 Students will explain the connection between Art and the world around them
Students will study Grant Wood’s painting “American Gothic” and learn what a parody and spoof is. Student will create a portrait that parodies the painting and uses current or pop culture characters to create their portrait. Students come up with some pretty interesting and sometimes humorous combinations with this project, and it also gives them some freedom and ownership in their Artworks.

The FMS Thrive Hive
The Fulton Middle School Thrive Hive opened for business on Monday, August 21st. The store is open 7:25 to 7:45 each morning. If students aren't able to shop then they can email Mrs. Horstmeier @ shortmeier@fulton58.org or Mrs. Yates @ hyates@fulton58.org for an appointment to shop.
The Thrive Hive is designed to allow students to use their Hornet Bucks--earned through the Positive Behavior Support Program--to purchase items from the store. The Thrive Hive was created to help the needs of the FMS Student Community.
Items currently needed for the store are:
Any age appropriate toys, DVD's for the holidays.
As we gear up for winter: Hats, gloves, scarves, and coats.
Snack items: Nutella snack packs, Slim jims and pop tarts.
Other needs are ear buds and water bottles.
We will be gearing up for the holiday season so baskets to make gift packages for students to purchase would be great.
All other items are appreciated as well.
If you would like to donate, please call Fulton Middle School at 573-590-8200.

The Library has been busy with many books being returned! I sent out notices for books that are overdue, so please return them or bring them in so I can renew them for you if you would like to keep them a little longer. Remember, you are allowed to check out 2 books at a time for 2 weeks, then they need to be returned or renewed. If you can't find your book, check your ELA classroom Library, check you locker, and look around your house.
Also, check out this awesome app for your phone, tablet, and chromebook called Hoopla! You can check out books, music, and movies for FREE just by having a Library Card with Daniel Boone Regional Library. Keep an eye out on the morning announcements for more information!
I NEED YOU FOR BOOK TALKS!
Please let your ELA teacher know that you would like to record a book talk with me. We will set up a time and get it going. If you don't want your face to be part of our morning announcements, I have lots of tricks up my sleeves and we come up with a fun way to do your book talk!
If you have a book request for me, please write it down on the Wanted poster by the book check out desks. I'll try and get those ordered soon! Don't forget to return or renew your books every 2 weeks so you don't get an overdue notice from me.
