Supporting Home-Based Programs, Issue 2
Birth through age Three Essential Literacy Practices (B-3)
CLOSE THE WORD GAP and get all kids ready to read.
Studies have shown that the “word gap” in early childhood is stark—some children hear millions of more words by their fourth birthdays than other kids do. The message is clear: early language and literacy skills are critical to later school success, and nurturing them should be a top priority for programs that serve young children.
Increasing Literacy Skills of Early On Staff
The professional development plan supports Service Coordinators deepening their literacy skills by providing embedded coaching that supports both the B-3 Essential Literacy Practices and CELL Practices. Below you will see links to the crosswalk between these two documents as well as expectations for participating staff.
