Band
- Mrs. Schlesener annaschlesener@usd475.org
Red Band: We have mastered putting our instruments together and making some noise! They begin each class with a partner and review the names of the lines and spaces in treble and bass clef. We are working on embouchure (how the mouth is placed on the mouthpiece) and making good sounds. They are starting learning log #4 this week, it is due on Friday. Each student has a copy of the L.Log template in their binders if you have any questions! We also did our first set of Cornell notes over the care, assembly, and disassembly of their instruments. Their revisions are due Friday. They need to search for hornsmasher on youtube followed by the instrument they play. If you have not watched the video with them yet, please do!
White Band: We are working our way through the book and making some great progress. A typical day starts with setting our goal for the day and adjusting our 6 week goal if need be. We have started playing tests, the numbers can be found on the yellow test sheet in their band binders. They are playing 3 pieces for me, I will then average those grades and they will be placed in chairs according to their ranking. Students are able to raise their grade but they are not able to raise their chair placement until the next 6 weeks. We finished our study guide today for our first written quiz, the quiz will be on Tuesday September 11th. If you are noticing missing participation grades, it is because I haven’t updated them before I left for the day. Learning Logs are updated so if they are missing those, please talk to them about getting them in, they are due every Friday and is their exit ticket.
Blue Band: We are also working our way through the book nicely. Playing tests have begun and should wrap up by the end of this week. They are playing 4 pieces from the book and the average will place them in their chairs. I am hearing great things! They also have a written test on Tuesday and we completed the study guide together in class today.
