Need to know
Health and Safety Reminders: We continue our vigilance against spreading the Covid-19 virus with these reminders and ask that you discuss them at home as well. We are stronger together!
Students must wear government issued face masks at all times at school, including at drop off and dismissal as multiple grades are coming and going and there are many instances that the boys are closer than one meter in mixed groups. For your peace of mind, we have confirmed that the Middle School has not received the masks that have been recalled.
Students need to have a reusable water bottle at school with them every day as drinking spouts at water fountains are off-limits for health reasons. Please label your son’s water bottle.
Hand sanitizer is available at every entrance, in every classroom and work space and in hallways. Hand washing is encouraged whenever possible. Sharing of materials in class is highly discouraged. Students can restock pencil case supplies this weekend to ensure they have the necessary items for each class.
Physical distancing must be maintained between students in separate pods while they are in the classrooms, shared hallways and at recess.
Middle School announces March Veritas Students of the Month: We are proud to honour four students each month, nominated by teachers and staff, in recognition of going above and beyond Veritas culture. Congratulations to the students: Mackenzie Carruthers (7-2), Edward Kovac (7-1), Jack Salkovitz (8-3), and Marc-Antoine Bougie (8-1). We thank them for their outstanding contributions!
Congratulations to Grade 8 students William Birks and Nicholas Capolicchio who represented Selwyn House at the Montreal Regional Science and Technology Fair from Sunday, March 28 to Tuesday, March 30. They presented their projects virtually to judges and “visitors”. They each received multiple prizes for their outstanding projects and the chance to present their projects again at the provincial level. Congratulations to William and Nicolas for all their hard work!
Gryphon Sale Donations: Parents may drop off previously loved uniform items for the Gryphon Sale in the bins right inside the front door of the school.
Spring Phys Ed Classes: Students will begin a new rotation of athletic activities next week that will include new offerings such as rugby, touch football and racquet sports. Students and parents can expect a message from our Athletic Department this weekend announcing the spring program.
2021-2022 Parent Academic Information Evening on Thursday, April 8 @ 7:00 pm. This presentation is for parents of students currently in Grade 8. Zoom link will be provided. Parents will hear about Grade 9 course option selections for 2021-2022. Students are welcome but not required to attend; presentations will be made to students at school. For more information contact Ms. Brenda Montgomery.
1000 Acts of Kindness: For detailed information about this 10-week initiative, visit this slide presentation and learn how parents, students and staff are participating in the “1000 Acts of Kindness” challenge.
- Week 3 Challenge: Engage in 100 30-minute conversations with someone outside of your household who is a person who may be lonely, whose health may be vulnerable or who may be in need or craving some companionship. Be a good listener. Once completed go to the Week 3 Form and enter your name.
SHS Indigenization Process: Selwyn House is excited to announce its commitment to indigenization. To learn more about what this means, click here and join us at our Town Hall event on April 7 (see details in the attached flyer).
