A message from Mrs. Rudder
Dear Penngrove Families,
It's hard to believe that we are already just a few days from Fall Break. The past 6 weeks, since I joined the Penngrove staff, have flown. There has been so much happening on campus. We've had a day to learn about solar eclipses, Jogathon, Caine's Arcade, and many field trips in addition to the daily learning activities in each and every classroom.
I would like to highlight two areas of focus for families upon our return to school in October. This first area of focus is school attendance. The Petaluma City Schools District is putting an initiative forward to raise the percentage of students attending school daily. Whenever a student is absent from school, for whatever reason, we lose funding from the state. We will be working with families to ensure that we have the best daily attendance at Penngrove.
The second area of focus is safety in our parking lots during drop off and pick up times. Maybe I have a heightened concern because I look at all the students as children, like my own grandchildren, who I want to keep as safe as possible. I would like to remind everyone of the rules for the parking lots: 1) The upper lot is ONLY for staff members and people with handicapped placards. It is NOT an area for pickup or drop off of students. 2) When driving through the lower lot, please drive slowly as there are many young students in the area. 3) Pull forward as far as possible in the drop off/pick up lane. 4) Adults should NOT exit the car in the drop off/pick up lane. Give your kisses and hugs at home before coming to school as we are trying to move many cars through the lot as quickly and safely as possible. 5) Turn RIGHT when you exit the lot so that traffic does not back up in the parking lot or on the road. 6) California driving laws apply in the parking lot...NO texting or talking on the phone while driving through.
I wish you all a wonderful break. I hope you have time to relax with family and friends and enjoy the beginning of the Autumn season.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Rudder

Baby Fadeji Update
With great anticipation and love, Mr. and Mrs. Fadeji welcomed their baby son, Samuel Oluwafemi Fadeji, into their family last week. Born on September 14th at 10:24pm, weighing in at 7 lbs. 1 oz. and measuring 19 inches long, the whole family is doing well and loving their special time together. As you can see, Baby Sam is already representing his favorite mascot, a panther of course!

Penngrove Yearbook Updates
Just a reminder that yearbook photos are not used for Social Media and will only be printed in our annual yearbook that is distributed to Penngrove students at the end of the year. If you do not wish to have your student's photo in the yearbook, please email us asap at fopptayearbook@gmail.com so we are aware.
Don't forget our Yearbook Cover Art Contest! Our Fall break is a great time to encourage your child to work on it. Deadline is coming up soon! Contest rules are in the office but just remember: LOTS of color, 8 1/2 x 11 portrait layout, and it must say "2017-2018 Penngrove Yearbook." Submit entries in the office. Student Council Hurricane Fundraiser
Penngrove Student Council is holding a fundraiser for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. We will be giving each classroom a box for donations. Our goal is to raise $150 by Friday, September 22. Help out if you can!
Funds collected will be sent to the following in Penngrove Elementary's name:
Houston Flood Relief Fund & Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund
Morning Campus Cleanup Tentatively Scheduled for November 18
Wishing the flowers by the multi looked a little more perky? Notice that the second grade quad needs some love? Want to help set up a rainwater collection system in the outdoor learning center? All these tasks and more will be made lighter when many hands pitch in to help!
Save the date and look for further announcements!
