Message from the Principal
As an alternative school of choice, Sierra View Elementary strives to provide the essential elements of alternative schools of choice described by the California Department of Education:
- Maximize opportunities for students to develop positive value
- Recognize the importance of students' desire to learn
- Maximize student self-motivation
- Maximize parent-teacher-student cooperation
- Maximize opportunities for students, teachers, and parents to react to a changing world
In the past three years, we have implemented two programs that we feel help us in our mission – i-Ready and The Leader in Me. i-Ready helps us set accurate achievement goals and meet students at their individualized instructional levels. The Leader in Me is a whole-school transformation process. It teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader.
These initiatives are funded entirely with site funds and through fundraising. We have two fundraisers planned for this year to support these initiatives and hope that in the future we can fund other improvements for our school including a new science laboratory, more leveled reading materials for K-1, more student supervision during play times, and playground equipment. Our Chico Bag fundraiser running this month is our first fundraiser and the second will be a Spring Fling scheduled for March 31st. Thank you for your support of our special school!

“Use the 7 Habits language at home!
As the school year unfolds, the children are learning the language and meaning of the 7 Habits. By hearing the same language at home and at school, you send the children a strong message of what you believe is important and that we are all on the same team—the team that wants to help succeed. When parents and schools support one another, the sky is the limit! Below is a summary of each of the habits:
Habit 1: Be Proactive (You’re in Charge)
Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind (Have a Plan)
Habit 3: Put First Things First (Work First, Then Play)
Habit 4: Think Win-Win (Everyone Can Win)
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood ( Listen Before You Talk)
Habit 6: Synergize (Together Is Better)
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw (Balance Feels Best)"
