Ocean Dumping Ban Act

*Enacted in 1988.
*Didn't' officially start until after December 31, 1991.
*Before it started, in a matter of 24 years, more tan 89,000 gallons of radioactive wastes were dumped into the Atlantic and Pacific. 115 Million tons of petroleum, chemical, metal, industrial, and organic wastes had been dumped into marine environments.
*Made it unlawful for any person to dump, or transport for the purpose of dumping, sewage sludge, medical waste or industrial waste into ocean waters.
*If convicted of dumping, criminals will be fined, in which all funds go toward to finding new alternatives to dumping.
