Virtual Academy 2022-2023 School Year
Recently, Fargo Public Schools made the decision to continue its Virtual Academy for the 2022-2023 school year. For planning purposes, we need to gather information regarding interest for next year.
Elementary (grades K-5): The elementary model will stay the same through the North Dakota Center for Distance Education (NDCDE).
Secondary (grades 6-12): Secondary students will utilize a program called Edgenuity for core classes. This program, currently used at the high schools for credit recovery coursework, provides greater flexibility to meet students’ academic needs. In addition, secondary students will have the opportunity to meet via Zoom with an FPS instructor at scheduled times throughout the day. Elective courses will be offered through NDCDE at the secondary level.
Please complete the survey linked below to indicate your interest in attending the Fargo Public Schools Virtual Academy for the 2022-2023 school year: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfFZEu1-qzxbzL7xn_Pq_txT2LnKXhJfURO9Kkx76Y7OtGGyg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Counselor's Corner
Spring is here!
In the month of April Guidance lessons focused on handling problems at recess, how to apologize, and when to report. Students are learning how to solve common interpersonal problems-disagreements between two or more people. We talked about the "STEP" strategy (Say the problem, Think of solutions, Explore the outcomes, and Pick a solution).
After our review of the Second Step skills we get to start on my favorite unit of the year-Careers!
Even at a young age, our students seem to have an idea about what they want to be when they grow up. Our lessons will focus on career clusters and interest inventories in our upper grades and K-2 will focus on community helpers, entrepreneurs, and tools for the job.
Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for sharing your children with us at Washington!

Free School Meals Expiring June 2022
A waiver from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has enabled schools across the nation, including Fargo Public Schools, to provide all students free meals since the COVID-19 pandemic first disrupted K–12 education in March of 2020. The free school meal benefits will expire after the last school day of the 2021–2022 school year.
What does this mean for families? In the fall of 2022, meals will return to paid-for status. Families will need to pay full price for student meals or fill out an application to qualify for free or reduced price meals. Applications for the 2022-2023 school year will be available starting July 1, 2022. Applications will be available on the Nutrition Services Department website after that date and will be shared at the start of the 2022-23 school year with families. You MUST fill out the application in order to receive free or reduced-price lunches.

Orchestra Instrument Rental Night @ North High
Hello 4th Grade Parents/Guardians!
In 5th grade, special musical opportunities will be available for students that can change the course of their lives long term if they wish! ORCHESTRA is offered starting in 5th grade. Fargo Public Schools are very fortunate that members of this community strongly support the string program; involvement in orchestra continues to flourish in this area.
In orchestra, students will learn how to play one of the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, or bass. Orchestra students will have their smaller class orchestra during the school day and a large ensemble group before school one consistent day of the week. Orchestra students will have several performances throughout the school year. This is a year-long course and is a multi-year activity that students can continue through high school and beyond.
