School Board Highlights - June 8, 2021

eLearning Public Hearing

The Board of Education held a public hearing to get public input on a proposed eLearning Plan. eLearning can be used in lieu of taking a day off of school in the event of an emergency such as a boiler main break or snow day. The state allows up to five days of remote eLearning Days. Following the public hearing, the Board of Education unanimously approved the eLearning Plan.


Transfer of Funds Hearing

To finish out the Daniel Wright building projects, the Board of Education held a public hearing as required by law before transferring funds into its operations fund to pay for the remainder of the projects. Following the public hearing, the Board of Education unanimously approved the fund transfers.


D103 Learning Update

  • Fall Plans

    • All students will return to in-person learning in the fall.

    • The option for remote learning is available for students with identified medical needs and are homebound or hospitalized.

    • Remote learning is available only for students ineligible for the vaccine and under the quarantine order.

    • Students and staff will maintain a 3-6 foot distance in school.

    • Masks are required inside buildings.

    • Students will eat lunch at a 6 foot distance.

    • Curriculum will return to pre-COVID curriculum.

    • The district will discontinue the use of PODS.

    • The district will discontinue the use of the iReady instruction program.

    • The district is waiting on state guidance for larger group gatherings such as music, clubs, and sports.

    • The district is waiting on state guidance regarding the number of students who may ride the school bus.

    • Field trips will be determined based on current state guidelines.

    • Visitors/volunteers in the schools will be allowed based on current state guidelines.

    • Guidelines may change over the summer.

  • Vaccine Clinic

    • D103 delivered 130 vaccines at Daniel Wright on May 23.

    • The second vaccine shot is set for June 13 at DW.

    • The vaccine clinic was offered to D103 students and families 12 years old and above.

  • Mask Update

    • Masks may be removed for staff and students when they are outdoors.

    • Staff and students who are not fully vaccinated should wear a mask in a crowded outdoor setting.

  • Looking Ahead

    • The district is waiting for additional state guidance on areas like busing and large group gatherings.

    • Staff is reviewing the curriculum for next year.

    • The district is installing air handlers at Half Day and Sprague to help improve ventilation.


American Rescue Plan Act of 2021

The American Rescue Plan Act provides emergency relief funding of approximately $195,000 to D103 to help safely reopen and sustain the safe operation of schools and to help address the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on students. A portion of this funding will be allocated to students to address learning loss.


Strategic Plan Update

The administration would like to move forward with the 2025 Strategic Plan process over the summer. The plan is to draft goals that the Strategic Plan Committee and Board of Education will review and then ask the community to review those goals. Following the review of goals, the administrative team will create objectives for each goal. The Board will then adopt the Strategic Plan.
