Department Highlights
Hi Families,
It is hard to believe there are less than 20 days of school left. We are extremely proud of all the hard work and resilience our students have displayed this school year.
Keep in mind that your child's school may have end-of-the-year events planned such as Field Day, Celebrations of Learning Parties, as well as student recognitions.
Speaking of teachers, our teachers have done an AMAZING job leading and supporting our students. Let's honor and celebrate them during National Teacher Appreciation Week (May 8-12) with notes and other gestures of appreciation
We wish you a safe and enjoyable break!

Title I Class News!!!
Maintain a Sense of Normalcy
The end of the school year is a time of great upheaval for kids. Their teachers are probably doing things differently in the classroom, and end-of-year testing can add a lot of stress and uncertainty to a kid's life. Help your child stay calm by keeping his schedule and home life as predictable as possible.
Visualize the Final Days of School
A lot of the normal routines change during the last few days of school, with things like assemblies and field trips altering your child's schedule. Make a countdown calendar that shows how many days are left!
Prepare for Goodbyes
Saying goodbye to familiar teachers, staff, and classmates is hard, especially for kids with special challenges. Help your child create and wrap special thank-you presents for any adults who regularly worked with them. Make playdate plans with a few of your child's favorite classmates for the first few weeks of summer.

Community Events
Beacon Hill Funk Festival
Location:Decatur Square, Downtown Decatur
Get ready to groove at the Beacon Hill Funk Fest on the Decatur Square May 20. This one-day event is set to be a blast, with four hours of 70s and 80s dance tunes from local favorites John Boy and Surround Sound, Lakeside, and the legendary Brick. And, to keep the party going between sets, DJ Quasi Mandisco will be spinning tunes to keep you moving.
The event will feature Black and Indigenous food truck vendors. Attendees can also bring their own food and drinks to enjoy. Come early or stay late to explore the downtown Decatur’s shopping and dining options.
This event is free, open to the community (and visitors!), and is part of Decatur’s year-long bicentennial festivities. Decatur’s 200th anniversary is a time to celebrate and reflect on its history, including the stories of Beacon Hill, a vibrant Black community in Decatur destroyed by urban renewal practices during the 1950s and 60s.
