Student Materials Returning and Distribution
One of our processes for closing this school year amid abruptly leaving the school building is returning personal belongings from lockers and returning school materials. Our goal is to make this a one-time drop off and pick up of materials. Items that will be returned to the school include:
- Stoneleigh Elementary library books
- Books which belong to a teacher or in the classroom
- Curriculum books
- Instruments borrowed from Stoneleigh Elementary
- Steel Drum performance shirts
- Reading pets and cages
- BCPS student ID badges and/or lanyards
Students who will not be returning to a BCPS school must return their device and power cord.
If you are not able to pick-up on the designated days, you may assign another responsible adult to pick-up. You must let Ms. Hollenbeck know who the designated adult is prior to the pick-up day, and inform them to bring their photo ID.
In order to protect yourself and our staff, please be sure to wear your face covering when you come to school. If you drive to the school, remain in your vehicle unless you are directed to exit. If you walk to school always stay at least six feet away from other persons. Do not bring children or friends with you; leave children at home under the supervision of other family members, if possible. Finally, if you are ill or under isolation or quarantine because of your own illness or that of a close contact, please do not come to school. Please contact Ms. Hollenbeck to make alternative arrangements.
The drive-through distribution site will be located in our bus loop. Our pick-up and distribution will be divided into three stations: Check-in, Return of School Property, and Retrieval of Personal Items. There will be staff and signage to help guide you through this process. We are asking families to print student first/last names and grade level in dark ink on a large piece of paper and place it on the left side passenger window or dashboard.
The guidelines for each station are listed below:
- STATION #1 – Check-In: This first stop will be marked with an orange cone, a sign and will have a staff person checking your name to expedite the process.
- STATION #2 – Return of School Property: Second stop will be marked with an orange cone and a sign. Families will label the bag of items that are being returned to the school with the following information: first and last name, grade, list of materials in the bag.
Remain in your car. If you can open your trunk without getting out of your car, our staff will retrieve your child’s school property from the trunk. If you are unable to open your trunk without getting out of your car, our staff will retrieve your child’s school property from the back seat.
Walking families will drop off bagged student items at the designated location.
- STATION #3 – Retrieval of Personal Items: Third stop will be marked with an orange cone and a sign A, B, or C. Staff will place a bag with your child’s items to be returned in the same location (trunk or back seat).
Walking families will retrieve items from appropriately marked tables.
The one-time distribution and collection schedule is being provided. Please adhere to your assigned date and time frame. Please note that families with more than one child at Stoneleigh Elementary will drop-off and pick-up student items all at one time on the date identified for the youngest member of the family.
- Wednesday, June 17th 7:45am – 2pm 3rd and 4th grade
- Thursday, June 18th 7:45am – 2pm 5th grade

Thank you for your patience and cooperation with this process. Should you have any questions please contact me via email at hhollenbeck@bcps.org.

BCPS Connects
BCPS Connects is a collaborative response to COVID 19 to provide social emotional and wellness supports and resources to the BCPS staff and BCPS families and communities. BCPS Connects is comprised of staff members from the Department of Social Emotional Support and the Department of Organizational Development and Equity and Cultural Proficiency. In our ongoing efforts to support student and family outreach efforts during Continuity of Learning and as we prepare for summer learning and welcoming students back in the fall, BCPS Connects has created an informational flyer that provides contact information for supports available through BCPS, Baltimore County, and the state of Maryland.
Please see the attached flyer below titled Need Help flyer.
Naturalistic and Incidental Teaching Strategies
Naturalistic Teaching Strategies (NaTS) are used to teach skills in the “real world” rather than in the more structured setting of a typical classroom. Parents, and even peers and siblings, can take advantage of natural situations that occur in the home or community to support the child’s learning and/or applying things learned during school lessons to the real world. NaTS works best when you take advantage of your child’s interests and preferred activities to teach skills or information. When using NaTS, have fun with your child and provide frequent specific praise.
Please see the attached flyer below titled NaTS Newsletter.
Recreation and Leisure
There are two different types of recreation and leisure activities, structured and unstructured. Both have benefits and, at times, can be a difficult skill for children to master. These skills are important because they can be an instrumental part of a child's learning and growth. Structured play is typically goal-oriented and can focus on skills such as turn taking, problem solving and sportsmanship. Unstructured activities can give children opportunities to be creative and independent. Leisure/Recreation can also focus on both mastered skills as well as teach children new skills during fun activities. Parents can create a leisure schedule, together, with their children. Mixing the activities they love to engaged in with activities where improvement is needed can be a great way to improve skills.
