Read it Forward
"Finding the right book for each student is almost impossible if you serve several hundred students, as most school librarians do. Read It Forward offers an innovative way around that problem: a program that lets librarians saturate the school with a title that encourages middle school students to read for pleasure. As an added bonus, Read It Forward (RIF) creates learning opportunities that can be leveraged across the curriculum."
More details about the Read It Forward program, school wide activities, how to get involved and the secret book title will be coming out to you in the next few weeks!

Fatal Fever: Tracking Down Typhoid Mary: Well, if this isn't an excellent reminder of the importance of washing your hands after you use the toilet....Mary Mallon aka Typhoid Mary had a habit of cooking food without washing her hands first. Bad news is that she had this habit during a time when Typhoid was at epidemic proportions in the US. I guess people didn't realize that putting outhouses on the edge of rivers that they used as their drinking water supply wasn't the best idea. Now we know better. Thank goodness!
Emperor's Silent Army: Terracotta Warriors of Ancient China: Farmers stumble upon an army of over 7500 Terracotta soldiers in 1974. These soldiers were created to protect Emperor Qin, the first Emperor of China. None of the 2,000 soldiers that have already been excavated are exactly the same. Amazing!
