Lounsberry Hollow Fifth Grade Students Celebrate Their LEAD Graduation
Students were recognized today as the first graduating class of L.E.A.D. A special thank you goes out to the VTPD who provided curriculum and support at no cost to the district. The Vernon Schools look forward to continued partnership opportunities with our local law enforcement. This program also helps support the district's Anti-Bullying initiative and supporting a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Due to decreased state aide funding this year and in the coming years, a referendum project is a good opportunity to repair facilities outside of the regular operating school budget. It is an opportunity to identify projects that might exceed the budgeted cap allowance. This ensures that our facilities can remain safe learning environments for our children which also support and enhance our students' ability to be creative, productive, academic students.
The role of the referendum committee will be to identify projects in our schools. These projects could include facilities projects such as windows, boilers, or HVAC systems. They could also include special classrooms such as labs, fine and performing arts spaces, or athletic facilities such as fields. The other role of the referendum committee will be to prioritize projects to present to the full board. The committee will be considering the total cost of projects, the diversity of projects and both the student impact and taxpayer impact of proposed projects. They will also work collaboratively with the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Business Administrator.
The benefit of exploring a referendum project is that facilities upgrades and repairs conducted during a referendum are at a significant savings to our taxpayers. Although referendum monies include borrowing additional funds over an extended period of time, the state provides approximately 40% of the overall cost. Therefore the cost to taxpayers is approximately 60% of the total borrowed, rather than the full 100%.
If you are interested in being part of the referendum committee, please send a letter of interest and resume to:
