A Note from Principal Sarikamis
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are in the second semester, focusing on state testing preparation. My team is collecting data and comparing it with the fall test results to see the growth and adjust some of the student's individual growth plans. It requires a lot of time and effort. We just finished our iReady and NWEA tests, followed by OELPA, which will take another three weeks.
During testing weeks, please make sure kids have enough sleep and rest. You can always check your ClassDojo for the testing schedules and updates, and you are welcome to message your classroom teacher or AP for any questions or concerns.
Re-enrollment season has started and, as always, we would like to give priority to our parents to re-enroll their kids online for the 23-24 school year. The re-enrollment can be done over PowerSchool (PS) for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, which means 5th graders can re-enroll in the middle school with their current parent portal. There are a few easy steps that I will describe below. If you need a PS parent account, please reach out front desk office at (614) 475-4585 or email info@hsace.org. Some iPads are also stationed for re-enrollment service at the front office, and admin secretaries will be available if any assistance is requested.
Online re-enrollment:
STEP 1: log in to your parent account.
STEP 2: Go to the FORM on the right column and click on it.
STEP 3: Click on the re-enrollment link.
STEP 4: Answer a few YES/NO questions and submit.
This year we are organizing a Washington, DC Trip for CYSP students and mentors. It will be between May 7th-9th 2023. The cost is $400, and a $100 deposit is required by February 10th, 2023. Your child's spot will be guaranteed when you pay the full amount. Contact Mrs. Jarvis at Jarvis@hsace.org or the office at 614-475-4585.
Our Robotics team got first palace in the (VIQC) Robotics Competition in Ohio and qualified for the State Championship. I take this opportunity to thank Mr. Comert and his team for their outstanding achievement and accomplishment.
Thank you,
Mr.Celal Sarikamis
A Note from AP Johnston
Parents,
Be vigilant with monitoring your child’s social media use. Your child could be in groups, chats or conversations with people they are not familiar with or who aren’t friends or family. Please note these myths from The Social Institute: (https://thesocialinstitute.com/blog/5-myths-about-student-social-media-use/)
Myth 1: Social media is just for fun
Myth 2: Students don’t express themselves online
Myth 3: Fear is the best approach when equipping students
Myth 4: Social media is only for students
Myth 5: Students don’t care about privacy
Do the research and have honest conversations with your child. Not all apps are child friendly and cyber bullies are out there.

We would like to invite all of our families to our February Family Event! The PBIS Committee will be offering several sessions on ClassDojo, School Handbooks 101, as well as other sessions on our PBIS Behavior and Reward System. This event will be held from 3:45 - 5pm on Thursday, February 9th. We hope to see you and your students there!

SPLATS!
Thank you to everyone who helped with the SPLAT competition. We would not have been able to do it without all the help! Our school finished with over 600,000 stomps, putting us in FIRST place out of all the schools around the country who competed!
SPLATS are tools to help get students moving in the classroom. They can be used as a learning tool, or just for fun. The competition was to raise money for The Next Step Foundation, a foundation which "uses the power of technology and cutting-edge curricula to upskill individuals from underserved communities—including youth, women and Persons with Disabilities—to take the next step toward sustainable livelihoods and economic independence".
Mr. Guard set a goal to stomp on the splat 20,000 times within two days, and HSA Elementary CRUSHED it. Way to go!
