Dragon Dash 2018
Thank you, Findley families, friends and donors, for your generous support!
As of this morning, September 28th, 63% of Findley students have participated in fundraising, either by signing up for www.pledgestar.com/findley and sending emails to parents, friends and family or by writing a check and turning in their pledge envelopes. Suggested donation: $145 per student. We have several families that have signed up for PledgeStar, but haven’t received any donations yet. Remember, you can log into your PledgeStar account and RESEND emails to your friends and family that haven’t responded yet.
We are almost there Dragons! We are at 72% participation and 75% fundraising!
Great job, everyone! But again, we still have a way to go and only 14 days until Pledge Envelopes are due on October 12th!
Thanks to the donations made by our wonderful sponsors, the Dragon Dash has many cool prizes and awards for your child to win for participation and donation amounts.
Thank you again for your continued support!

TAG NOMINATION PROCESS
Every year students are considered for Talented and Gifted services in the Beaverton School District. If you think your child might qualify, you may wish to complete the Parent Information Form, which is available in the school office or on the BSD Website https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/depts/tchlrn/Pages/TalentedAndGifted.aspx. Completing this form gives Findley's TAG committee more information about your child, but is not required. All qualified students will be considered regardless of the form's completion. The Parent Information form should be submitted to the office by the end of the day (4:30pm) on Tuesday, October 12, 2018 for its consideration. Late forms will not be accepted. TAG testing will occur Nov. 5th-8th. Please look at Findley’s website for further information on TAG. Forms are in the office or attached. The date for the Cogat Screener at Findley is October 16th.

We want to hear from you!
The Beaverton School District staff and community are invited to assist with the selection of the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 District calendars by selecting their preferred calendar option for each of the two years. The survey will be open through October 14, 2018. The final calendars will be announced and posted on the District’s website following the October 22, 2018 School Board meeting.
The calendar committee, comprised of parents, association leadership, school administrators and central administrators, considered the following factors when developing the various calendar options:
- Contractual requirements: District calendars must include 184 student days, 198 licensed employee days, 5 paid holidays (Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Presidents Day and Memorial Day), 3 August pre-service days, 2 August professional development days and 4 grading days.
- Instructional and historical considerations: Calendar committees typically try to distribute semesters as evenly as possible, place grading days on Mondays or Fridays for parent convenience and provide as many full weeks of school as possible. Winter break has historically been ten days and spring break follows the Oregon University System (OUS) calendar.
- Starting before/after Labor Day: Over the past three years, an additional nine instructional days have been added to the calendar. Adding these days to the beginning of the year are considered more instructionally consequential for students, prompting school to begin before Labor Day in 2018 rather than going later in June.
Options Programs
Option School Application Process for 2019-2010
The application timeline has changed for the 2019-2020 school year. The lottery application phase has been shortened to make Second Consideration applications available earlier. This will allow students more time to work on their applications and schools more time to review them.
The Beaverton School District is nationally recognized for high student achievement and innovative programs. Beaverton students in grades 6-12 have the opportunity to investigate learning options that best fit their academic needs. Students can choose their neighborhood school or apply for one of a number of learning options. Transportation is provided.
Applications for the 2019-2020 school year will be available starting Monday, October 15, 2018. Please plan to attend one or more of the open houses that are available. Students may only select one option on their application, so do some early investigation of the options online.
All applicants must reside within the Beaverton School District boundaries. Beginning October 15, current Beaverton School District students are able to apply online using their student ID. Resident students not currently attending a Beaverton school, or who do not have Internet access, will need to complete a paper application available online, or at any school office beginning October 15, 2018. Please give careful consideration to your choice of school. Once an application has been submitted, no changes will be allowed.
Applications must be received no later than Friday, December 7, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. (PST).
