A note from the Head of School

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year!

We are finally here. The start of the new school year. A new year, new hopes, dreams, and goals. More than 200 families and students attended the Back to School Meet and Greet last week. It was great to see so many of you. The energy was high and what I hope is an indication of the type of school year we will have.

Day 1 at CSA will look and feel different than the rest of the week. On the first day of school, students will be welcomed by CSA staff with high-fives and hugs. Students will spend the opening 60 minutes of the day as a whole school and then in grade levels before being dismissed to classes. Classes on the first day will be shorted and students will receive syllabi and class instructions.

Students will also receive their personal laptop devices. This device is theirs for the year. It is the responsibility of the student to care for and maintain this device. Please review with your scholar the CMSD Family Digital Device Guidelines

Because of the busyness of the week, we are asking that families limit their presence inside the building and schedule time to meet with any school personnel during the week of August 28th.

Attendance is a major focus for our school this year. If a student is not at school...they cannot learn. This year, admin and staff have teamed up to create an attendance committee. The attendance committee will work with students and their families who show warning signs of absenteeism. Our goal is 93% average daily attendance.

Audition Notice for AOA’s Fall Musical:

Hairspray Performances are scheduled for November 3, 4 & 5, 2023

Who: Auditions are open to all AOA US and highly motivated and talented MS Students. MS students must obtain parental permission prior to auditioning. We are also working with the amazingly talented students from The Cleveland School of the Arts!

If you would like to participate in this program, please audition. No roles have been previously assigned. All ethnicities are encouraged to participate regardless of race, gender, age, disability and sexual orientation.

When: Auditions are Wednesday and Thursday, August 30 & 31 starting at 3:30 pm. Auditions will consist of a group dance component and an individual singing audition. Auditioners must prepare a portion of a song (1-2 minutes maximum) Call backs will take place on August 31, 2023.

Where: Auditions and callbacks will be held in the Performing Arts Theater, Osborne Building of Andrews Osborne Academy, 38588 Mentor Ave, Willoughby, OH 44094

What is Required: All roles are available. If an actor wishes to be considered for a leading or supporting singing role, they must sing a song in the style of the show. Please prepare at least 1 minute of a song. Karaoke tracks are allowed. If an actor is only interested in a speaking role, they must prepare a monologue or poem. Everyone must prepare for the movement/dance audition. Please learn this viral tik tok dance:

When are Rehearsals? We will rehearse after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We will also rehearse on most Sunday afternoons. Please bring all conflicts when you audition. The more conflicts you have, the smaller the role you will be assigned. Information on the show, the characters, and the songs can be found in this website:

Transportation

Scholars who live within the City of Cleveland will receive an RTA bus pass. The bus pass is directly linked to their CMSD student ID card. All scholars will receive their CMSD ID card on the first day of school during grade-level orientation.

Please ensure your scholar arrives at school on time by reviewing their specific bus route. Tardies will be tracked beginning on the first day of school.

The Postsecondary Planning System assists student support teams with identifying services for students in academic, health, and social/emotional areas. The system also provides school and community leaders with a large-scale view of each student’s progress along the pathway to high school graduation and postsecondary education success.

Congresswoman Brown is launching her inaugural Youth Advisory Council (YAC)!

The OH-11 Youth Advisory Council (YAC) was developed to give high school students the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge about government, provide meaningful input, and enhance their leadership skills.

Through YAC, students will gain the skills and confidence needed to foster long-lasting change in their communities by affecting positive outcomes and impacting the lives of others.

Congresswoman Brown's office has officially launched the inaugural OH-11 Youth Advisory Council (YAC) for the 2023-2023 school year! View our information flyer here.

As a YAC member, students will have the opportunity to work on real-world projects and develop important career-building skills, such as public speaking, problem-solving, and teamwork.

We are seeking highly qualified juniors and seniors to serve as official youth ambassadors.

Cleveland Playhouse After School Programs

Cleveland Play House ‘s Out-of-School Time Learning Program provides safe, engaging, educational, and developmental services of high-quality before- and after-school programs at CSA at no cost to families.

All of their programming is student-centered. In order to maintain the center of our scholars, they are committed to ongoing and continuous program improvement and curricular evaluation.
