Operation Share the Warmth
Operation Share the Warmth is moving along, and we are excited to announce that Lorain County families can now apply to receive free winter clothing for their children.
When we approached Lorain County Jobs and family Services Lorain with a plan to outfit 4,500 children with warm, winter-appropriate clothing, we had every child in mind. That's because warm winter clothes are about more than just being protected from the elements. That is the mission behind Operation Share the Warmth, a simple gesture that lets every child know that they deserve to come to school every day without the worry of being cold because they will have appropriate clothing purchased with them in mind.
All families are encouraged to apply for this program by completing a PRC form and a Clothing Order form. These forms will be sent home with students by their school and should be returned as soon as possible. Please share this with all your buildings and staff in your districts. Both forms can be returned digitally at operationshare@lorainschools.org. Families will be notified of how and when to pick up their children's clothing. We’d like to ask you to keep sharing information about Operation Share the Warmth with your families. We can and want to serve so many of our families.
To refresh your memory, Operation Share the Warmth is a partnership program between Lorain City Schools and Lorain County Jobs & Family Services to provide up to 4,500 eligible children in Lorain County with $225 in FREE cold weather-appropriate clothing.
If your families need new forms, they are available online. Packets are also in each school’s main office and counselor’s office or click here.
What to do when forms come in?
When students return their PRC and clothing order forms to you, the teacher should send all forms to their school’s main office. Completed forms should be scanned and emailed to operationshare@lorainschools.org. If you have hard copies of the forms, please email us and we will work on collecting those forms. We must keep the hard copies on file in the event Lorain County Job and Family Services audit the program, as this is a TANF-funded program.
Lorain City Schools staff and volunteers will package the items and handle distribution. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me or email Kendall Krueger at the email above.

Department News- English
Great Lakes Theater wowed Steele students with their acting expertise the week of January 30. Thanks to an Amherst Fine Arts Grant and the generosity of GLT, Mrs. Opel’s students were lucky enough to study literature they will be reading with the professional acting company.
English 10 students saw the play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry brought to life over the course of a week. Students performed scenes alongside the actors and were also able to see the actors present their craft in short dramatic scenes. Sophomores will now do an in depth study of the play in class and draw upon their experience with GLT.
Honors English 9 students will study Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare 3rd quarter, but they were able to experience its dramatic, tragic scenes and speeches with GLT. The students were even treated to some sword fighting instruction on the final day when they performed the final scene of the play.
Drama students were also able to partake in the fun by playing theater games and practicing improvisation with the actors.
A great big thanks to Great Lakes Theater and the amazing actors who spent a week at Amherst bringing literature and theater to life for the students.
