DID YOU KNOW?
The North Carolina Association of School Administrators asks that the General Assembly, the Governor, the State Board of Education and other state leaders work with our organization and the 7,000 school leaders in our membership on focused initiatives that will attract and retain the highest quality personnel to work in public schools across the state and to support enhanced achievement of North Carolina students, ensuring readiness for competition in our global economy. Click on the below link to review NCASA’s recommendations for legislative actions that will assist with these goals and help move the state’s public schools to the next level.

Attended Mars Hill College, Majored in Studio Art. Graduated in 1993
What are some of your most memorable moments from school (elementary, middle, and/or high)?
Too many to list really but I can remember my first Varsity Football game (@ Whiteville 1987). It’s a long story, but i actually got us a 1st Down as a Center during my first varsity football game. My last Varsity football game stands out equally (Richmond 25 - Scotland 20, 1988). We played our hearts out that game. My teammates are brothers and it’s a bond that lasts forever.
Who were some of your favorite teachers and why?
I had many influential teachers in my life. The late Coach John Blount once told me "Once a quitter, always a quitter". These words stay with me constantly. My art teacher Ingrid Royer taught me there is nothing wrong with being a free spirit sometimes. My favorite would be Mrs. Pat Trulove. She was a super sweet lady that taught me to believe in myself because I never doubted that she believed in me.
Why did you choose to come back to Scotland County to live or why did you stay?
It's home. It's family. It's in my blood. Scotland County is what has made me who I am and the cool thing is that it’s not done with me. The influences around me today are still molding me. Scotland Forever!
Any words of advice?
Teachers: All it takes is one Mrs. Trulove, one Coach Blount, or one Mrs. Royer to shape many minds. Some days it may not seem rewarding, but you are making a difference. Thank you!
Students: Enjoy these years! They don't last as long as you think. Learn all that you can and you can work harder to better yourself (athletically and academically). Most importantly, surround yourself with positive influences.
