ESS Weekly Family Update
Week ending 9/16/2022
Update from Mrs. Weber
We had our first fire drill on Wednesday-it was a great success! It's been a nice week to get outside for recess--the cooler weather is a nice change. Please be aware of your speed in the parking lot-kids are all around and aren't always aware of their surroundings.
Please be sure you have a plan in place for your child if you are unable to meet the bus or are late for 3:45 pick up time. Traffic and weather can unexpectedly impact your ability to arrive for your child on time. If there is no adult waiting, the bus company will return your child to school and someone must pick them up in a timely manner. A great option is the after school program here at ESS. It is run by the Boy's and Girl's club and offers childcare until 6:00 PM each night. You can contact them at 203-924-7462 to sign your child up and learn more about their program.
Please make sure if you are sending a relative/neighbor to drop off your child they are aware of the traffic flow in the in the morning. If they are coming to pick up your child, please be sure that they are aware of the traffic flow and parking, they are on your list of approved pick ups and that they have picture ID with them.
Birthdays are a special day for students and will be recognized during morning announcements. Food items, balloons and goodie bags are not allowed in school. Celebrations of birthdays should not disrupt the school day or endanger any student with food allergies.
If you are sending party invitations in, it must be for the entire class, all boys or all girls. If you are only inviting a select few students (which is your prerogative), then those invites must be distributed outside of school
Birthday Books may be purchased in honor of student birthdays and will be added to the school library after the birthday kiddo has a chance to take it home! It is a great opportunity to honor their birthday and help ESS at the same time! More information will be coming from Mrs. Bush regarding how to purchase these books
Friday September 16th is the last day for students to return their summer reading/math in order to participate in the celebration next week. Students who do not return theirs will be unable to participate.

September Breakfast/Lunch Menus
Updated breakfast/lunch information-
Lunch and breakfast are available each day for all students at NO COST until the end of October.
Parents/Guardians should fill out the application attached below for Free/Reduced lunch, even though you think you may not qualify. When the funds run out and if you have not already filled out a form, you will be expected to pay full price for each breakfast and lunch your child receives.
A menu will be sent home electronically at the beginning of each month with food choices (subject to availability). Students may also bring lunch from home. We do not have room in the cafeteria for visitors to eat lunch with students.
We are a nut free school-any foods containing nut products may not be brought in. Only food served by the cafeteria or lunch boxes from home will be permitted. Please check all ingredients and treats, especially if you are sending your child in with a boxed lunch such as "Lunchable". Many times the candy in those items contain nuts.
We do not have a microwave for students to heat lunches and staff will not cut up food for students. Please be sure your child knows how to open their lunches, drinks and lunch boxes. Now is a great time to practice!
