Message from Mrs. Woodring

I want to thank all students, parents, and staff that participated in our Lincoln Reads Family Club this past Wednesday evening. It was great to see families come out and enjoy an evening of literacy. It is my hope, your child really enjoyed themselves and connected them even more to the culture of Lincoln. Many thanks go out to Judy Dainko and Gina DiPalermo for setting up the shared reading experience and facilitating the evening and book discussions and a fun game of Jeopardy! Our next fun family event is the skating party at Funway on November 4, please come join in the fun, details below in the attached PTO newsletter. Come to see your friends, principal and some staff skate the afternoon away.

Halloween Parade

Parents,

I am writing to provide information to both students and parents about Wednesday's Halloween festivities at Lincoln Elementary. Parents and Guardians of Lincoln students may come to view the Halloween Parade at 1:30 pm. Parents should stand along the sidewalks on school property, and the classes will parade around the building. In the event it rains, the parade will take place in the Lincoln School gym, parents and families will enter teh building for the parade using the back entrance.

Please remember students must be able to dress themselves (only Kindergarten students come to school dressed in their costumes). A few guidelines for student costumes are below:

· Students must be able to put their own costume and/or make-up without assistance.

· No masks may be worn.

· No costumes and/or make-up may be worn that depicts blood and violence.

· Students are not to bring anything that resembles a weapon of any fashion, even if it part of a costume.

· No bare midriffs or scant clothing.

Costumes must be appropriate for school and not distract students from the learning environment.

· Students will be asked to remove any parts of the costume that is not within the guidelines.

Parents who have volunteered to help with the classroom parties MUST check in the main office to get their visitor's badge. Those parents are encouraged to bring their identification to the office between now and Tuesday to expedite our new security process.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to a great time Wednesday afternoon.

CogAT testing window

October 2018

Dear Parent:

Between November 5 and November 16, 2018, 3rd and 5th graders will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). The test consists of three short sections, 40-45 minutes each.

The CogAT is not an achievement test. Instead, it measures a student’s reasoning abilities which can facilitate his/her learning and problem-solving. CogAT scores report an individual’s verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal reasoning abilities. The test scores may be used to adapt instruction and programs to the needs and abilities of students. Information is also used as a piece of information for student programming such as Academically Talented.

You will receive a report with your child’s performance on these tests in January. We appreciate your support of our academic program and your partnership in facilitating your child’s learning.

Please feel free to contact your building principal or me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Cindy Ruesch and Mr. David Chiszar

Veteran's Day Assembly

Lincoln will honor Veteran's on Veteran's Day, November 12, 2018, during an assembly at 9:00 am. We are asking students to invite family members or neighbors that have served in one of the armed forces. We will honor our veteran's during an all-school assembly.

Please email Mrs. Woodring (michelle.woodring@d303.org) the name and relation of those that are planning to attend the morning celebration. Another way to honor a veteran is to complete the attached form with a picture, we will post these in our entry hall. Please send your form to school by November 8.
