Principal's Message

Dear Hallinan Families,

Thank you for joining us at Back to School Night! If you haven't seen it already, I've added the the video I sent out yesterday with a message from me as well as our district and school partners below. If you were unable to attend your teacher's Back to School Night presentation, please contact them directly.

I recognize that it's been a difficult week for many of our families. The notifications sent over the last few days may be causing uncertainty or mixed emotions that may be stressful. It is important to me to ensure that all students and families feel safe and respected at Hallinan (and always!). Thank you for your continued kindness and respect during these unique times.

If you have questions about quarantines and protocols, please join the LOSD Information Session about Quarantining and Other Exposure Protocols tonight. Our District nurse will talk through the protocols and address many frequently asked questions. The session will be recorded and shared. Here is the Zoom link:

Thursday, Sept. 9

5:30-6:30 p.m.

Roadmap to Reopening / Health & Safety Protocols

It has been magical having students back in the building, hearing their laughter and watching them learn. We are here for every student, every day supporting them socially, emotionally and academically, the Hallinan way, with kindness!

Ready Schools, Safe Learners Mask Update

On September 3, 2021, OHA updated OAR 333-019-1015 requiring face coverings in all K-12 indoor and outdoor settings. All individuals 5 years of age and older are to wear a face covering outdoors when individuals cannot or do not consistently maintain at least 6 feet of physical distance from people not in their household.

This update means that when our students are outside for any school related activity (including recess) and cannot maintain at least 6 feet of distance between themselves, they will need to wear masks. Students will be told by their teachers that we will start implementing this rule immediately, effective September 10, 2021. This is a great opportunity to discuss safety protocols with your children tonight. Thank you for your partnership!

Mrs Miller's 5th Grade Class

5th grade math students started off the year with a challenge. Each student was given a 12 inch piece of wood that they needed to create into an accurate standard ruler without using any type of measuring device to place the inch, 1/2 inch, 1/4 inch and 1/8 inch marks. First, they sanded their wood until it was smooth. The next steps were a great lesson in problem solving, collaboration, perseverance, fractions, and measurement. How would you go about tackling this challenge?

No Bus Passes for Play Dates

In an effort to manage bus capacity and COVID-19 protocols, our schools are not able to accept bus pass requests for play dates. If a parent-guardians has a childcare arrangement, that is allowed with a signed note from the parent-guardian. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Please click here for information about the bus transportation situation.

This Fall, all students in Grades 1-8 will complete two online i-Ready assessments in class. One is for math and the other is for reading. i-Ready is a program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform and tailor instruction to accelerate growth. This is the first of three i-Ready assessments we give each year, and results will be shared with parents in October.

The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s skill level. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.

At Hallinan, the Fall i-Ready will take place September 13-24.

Student Illness

If your child will be absent, please email your student's teacher and copy the office at halattendance@loswego.k12.or.us. Please list the date your child will be absent and any illness symptoms. See this guide for information on when to keep your child home from school.
